Title: Winter started up around these parts again the other day
Post by: Libertas on December 06, 2017, 08:41:55 AM
Winter started up around these parts again the other day, commute in yesterday was a PITA, little bit better going home but I take a lot of side roads when the freeways turn into noways...

Not quite enough white stuff yet for this kind of display though...

...that'll change sometime soon I expect.

No AlGore sighting though, that's a blessing!

Some Swedes caught this sight...pretty cool, maybe someday here...seen sun dogs and rings before, nothing quite this spectacular...

That's impressive.

Oh, wise guy, eh?!   ::pokeineye::   ;D

Where you at now, still in Taiwan?

Man, missed a swell mess on I-94 eastbound this AM...

http://kstp.com/traffic/kstp-traffic-round-up-thursday-december-7-2017-rollover-st-paul/4698250/ (http://kstp.com/traffic/kstp-traffic-round-up-thursday-december-7-2017-rollover-st-paul/4698250/)

...unfortunately for me...my typical route has me enter the eastbound leg off 280 and all it did was lead me smack into the middle of this crap!

Shut down all lanes, sat there for 15 minutes until they cleared this idiots mess...then left 2 lanes shut down and everybody jamming into right 2 lanes...took a 1/2 hr + to move 500 feet!

 ::pullhair::

Some people....

It's winter, get a reliable vehicle, put winter-capable tires on it...and don't be a dipsh*t!  I swear, too many people are completely devoid of the sense God gave the common dog!!!

And the occasional snowstorm.

Ummm. No. Don't miss those at all. I've been from the Rocky Mountains to the East Coast. I hate snow. That's why I live south of I-10.

Although I do regret not taking my children in it. When you're young, snow is cool.

Meanwhile, in yet another in a long line of pathetic attempts to try to remaining relevant...the Climate Pimps are once again trying to cast their spell of lies on the less than intelligent...

I glanced @ a Twitter headline mocking Trump's dismissal of Climate Change due to the fact that it's cold outside:

Quote
“In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!”

I mock the Christian community CC believers by pointing out that belief in Climate Change means they worship a God who's a f*ck-up.
How can you worship a God who forgets that his crowning creation will exhale gasses that unduly & dangerously warm the planet?

You can imagine how that Trinity meeting went:

God: Yo, Jesus, Holy Spirit - I put you BOTH in charge of lung & respiratory design - what the heck is going on down there?

Jesus: Don't look @ me, Dad - I was proof-reading the OT prophecy manifest - didn't want any inaccuracies - know what i mean?

Holy Spirit: Hey man, I was pretty wrapped up with all that "hovering over the waters" stuff - & what about all that "created in our own image" promotion? The ONLY place I know where it's "warming" is w-a-y down there with, uhm . . . you-know-who!

 ;)

And now for something different...

“In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record,” Trump noted about the freezing temperatures in New York and other cities.

Cancelling events, what a bunch of sugar-britches!

It was -17 when I got up yesterday morning, and I still went out into to world, visited my folks and fixed whatever they thought needed fixing, dropped some clothes off at Goodwill, hit the Kwik Trip.  Suck it up buttercups!

The combination with NYE brings about TMI news reports...

Some revelers gave up their secret: adult diapers.

“So far, it’s dry, and I’m hoping to keep it that way,” said Dallas teacher Heather Feist, 32, who began lining up at 9:30?a.m.

Others were not so lucky.

“I’ll definitely need to shower after peeing my pants all day,” said Ayame Yamakawa, 21, who traveled 22 hours from Okinawa, Japan, just for New Year’s Eve. She had already wet herself once by 2:41 p.m. after lining up at 10 a.m.

Yup theyre talking 12 to 18 in Boston I'm not sure what my kid is in for  but she better have the generator gassed up and kerosene for the heater. Wind and cold air just suck the heat out of a house.

He'll not be doing it this time; the guy is bringing the part tomorrow, when G. is at work, and I'll just have him do it.

No, Nessie (blue truck) still in garage; alternator didn't come in until today, so I ran and picked it up between trips shuttling stuff to the freezer out there.

I need a nap.  And a glass of wine.  It's five o'clock somewhere, right?

I read Charleston got 5".  Boston harbor freezing up.  Fountains freezing up in Charlotte.  Dogs and cats living together, mass pandamonium!

It's so so damn cold up here with that Arctic blanket over us we aren't allowing any moisture in to create much snow.

But, this stuff happens in winter and sometimes this stuff sinks lower and raises heck down south.

Winter happens.  It's not man-made anything, it's nature.  The only debate is if we are once again entering another one of those natural cycles - a Maunder Minimum...judging from continued low solar activity that is a possibility...but man doesn't have jack to do with it.

Yes and no.  Refrigerator fan not delivered, according to repairman this morning.  I'm not expecting him to get his ass, and the part, here until Monday.  He made me snort to m'self on the phone as he opined on how horrible my street probably is (and it is), judging by the local streets 'round his house, he said, and what I didn't rub in his face was that my horrible street is the same one Gunsmith's traveled for the last two days TO GET TO WORK.

Lazy, scaredy-cat bastid.

'S okay; G. rigged up a fan inside of the back to blow air on the compressor to keep it on the cool side, so the box is plugged in and running right now.

Southerners can't drive in this stuff and are scared of it. People that grew up in the north see it as another winters day. I really can't blame them.

Right now in Conn. people are screaming for plumbers to fix broken pipes even though they kept the thermostat a 65 degrees to save a buck and can't understand why the damned hose is cold. and HVAC guys cause the furnace that they haven't has service in years crapped out.

Just got off the phone with my BIL in Wilmington N.C. and the city is shut down for three days till it melts. They have 2" on the ground and the place is freaked out.   ::snoshovel::

Two inches?
Every see southerners try to drive in the snow?  It's a riot.

To be fair, with all the imported Minnesotans, it's a riot there, also.  At least until the crews get out.  There are always hundreds of accidents whenever it snows.

Maybe they don't have snow in Somalia.

They don't have civilization either.

Southerners can't drive in this stuff and are scared of it. People that grew up in the north see it as another winters day. I really can't blame them.

Tough noogies, John.  The guy has a business and he needs to man up and get the hell out and service his customers, askeered of the iffy roads that my husband has already traveled to get to HIS work or not.

I'll tell you what:  come Monday, I'm finding out if he has the fan, and if so, I'll be going to get it and the G-man will install it himself ....... or I will.

And two, I'm finding another appliance repair guy.

Jeez loweez.

Just tell the guy...to turn in his man-card.

When I grew up we just had cold weather.
In recent years the 'polar vortex' was invented.
Now even that is not good enough. We have the 'bomb cyclone.'

They keep trying to scare us, like this narrative and its newest scary words will cause us to drop to our knees and accept their Climate Cult Mantra as our savior and surrender our lives and fortunes to the globalist fascist cabal...

That may work on the easily manipulated minds of left-leaning drones...

But I suspect their numbers are over-represented and therefor the impact of the Overlords is equally over-represented...and in many quarters (like mine) openly and vehemently rejected, stymied and derailed.

To rebellion!   ::beertoast::

I'm gettin' about sick of the dreaded "wind chill factor",  too.  The wind chill factor don't mean squat.  It's whatever the ambient temperature would feel like if there was a wind,  and it was blowing on bare skin.  So,  if you are stupid enough to go out in the cold buck nekkid,  you might have reason to take notice of the wind chill factor,  but I doubt it.

Now,  it's reported more than the actual temps:  ...."it'll feel like minus 9 million degrees in Vermont...".    National maps of nothing but "what it will feel like".   If I've seen one I've seen a thousand this past week.  And I can't recall any national ACTUAL low temp maps.  Idiocy.

They showed several maps that included my AO,  complete with "what it will feel like"/wind chill numbers,   and there wasn't even any wind blowing,  nor had there been.     ::facepalm::

The Fake News MSM's sensationalist journalism practices took hold in the weather room,  years ago.  And it continues unabated:  they needed a similar made up phenomenon for the summertime,  so now we got the "heat index".   ::pullhair::

Just give me the hard numbers,  please.  My old hairy ass is perfectly capable of determining what "it feels like",  thank you.  It's had years of practice.   ::oldman::

Better have a large diesel storage tank. Them suckers can suck it up pretty quick.

I looked at a small 5kw diesel and found it used about the same amount of fuel per day as a gas. Plus diesel is a lot smellier.

Have no idea. Knowing the fuel mileage difference between gas and diesel trucks, I was expecting to use a lot less diesel, but the specs in my research didn't bear that.

It's been a few years and I'm guessing both are worse thanks to the EPA.

 ::cussing::

And diesel always seems like it is more expensive per gallon...my BIL gave up one of his fleet trucks that was diesel and traded in for straight gas, he just has the one F350 that is diesel and it is because it hauls the bigger trailer and has the more monstrous snow plow in the winter...otherwise he would pass on diesel altogether.

Plus, all that bio-diesel stuff brings along its own new set of issues and expense!

Government's only role is to intrude, make things worse and abscond with more information and wealth!  They are the number one cause of misery on the planet!!!

New Taipei City and yes, I did hike from the visitor center to the top, which is from about 2,400 feet to 3,500.  In fact, I did it a couple of days before Christmas when it was in the 70s at sea level and 60s up on top.  Got a pretty good sun burn.  On average the tops get snow every 7 years, but it did happen 2 years ago.

It might be bamboo.  There's tons of it around.

Never had debt in their history, until this year.  I think it was incurred to pay the overpromised ESOT payments.

Old board fired, new accountants hired.  Valuation down.  On the bright side, sales are up for the first year in quite a few.  The photography business isn't what it used to be.  Most of the players are gone except for Big Photography in Eden Prairie.

I was bummed for a week until I could concentrate on the positives.  I'm out of Minnesota.  I will stay out of Minnesota.  Probably Cedar Rapids.  Big enough to have the stuff I love, small enough to not have the dysfunction setting into the Twin Cities.  I hate what Minnesota is turning into.

I only have to work part time, or temp, or anything I want.  No pressure for that Good Job.  I just have to halt the drain on the savings.  It's only a third haircut.  I worked with an engineer in his 60's, who had to start work again because his previous company went bankrupt, leaving his nest egg at zero.  Then there are the Enron people who also lost everything.  Then I look at so many who have no savings and will never be able to retire.  I don't have it so bad.

But @#$%!  To be there and to realize I'm not there after all.  Kind of sucks.

After a cold front dropped temps back into the 50's, last night, warmer air to move in starting today.  The first 90's are in store.  This is where I stop bragging about the weather, here.  Taipei has some of the hottest, most humid summers in the world, and last year was the hottest in history.  Almost every day in the mid to upper 90's with dew points in the upper 70s. Heat indexes from 110-125.  Every.  Day.  Late May to early September, with a re-appearance at the very end of September (all time record for the month of 101 set) and early October (all time record for the month of 99 set).

This winter, though, has been below normal, capped by the pic of snow I took.  If I could just snowbird from November to April, life would be good.

I am not looking forward to the heat of NC summer ....... and the humidity ....... so far as long as it stays cool, the less sweltering time there will.

I hear that this weekend is supposed to bring us another 8-14". SMH. Facebook showed me that April 6th of last year, I posted a video I took driving my boat around on Maple Lake after I replaced on of my trailer bunks. As of now, I think there's a serious question as to whether the ice will be gone by the Walleye opener.

Now they're saying for Wright County where I live we're looking at a possible 12-21". Jesus Christ. That wasn't taking the Lord's name in vain, it was a prayer.

The Latest: Snow causes Wisconsin hotel roof collapse

AP15 Apr 2018

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Latest on spring storm that dumped heavy snow on Upper Midwest, Plains states (all times local):
Officials say heavy snow caused part of a hotel roof to collapse in northeastern Wisconsin, but no one was hurt.

WLUK-TV reports that the roof collapsed Sunday over the pool at an Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Ashwaubenon, which is next to Green Bay. No one was in the pool area at the time.
...
10 a.m.

A deadly storm system moving through the central and southern U.S. has dumped a thick blanket of snow on parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota and left parts of Michigan an icy mess.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay reported Sunday that more than 24 inches (61 centimeters) of snow had fallen in the northeastern Wisconsin communities of Tigerton and Big Falls.

About 200 Sunday flights have been canceled at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, where nearly 13 inches (33 centimeters) of snow has fallen and where blizzard conditions on Saturday forced the cancellation of nearly 470 flights.

also
The channel noted that if the snow in the Twin Cities rises above 13.6 it would be the third heaviest snowstorm there on record.

Well, Pat...Maple Grove got just a hair over 20" this weekend...and they are just bit south of me...It looks like mid-January around here...just so dangblasted tired of this winter  ::cussing:: !

I have drifts 3-4' high in parts...and we aren't even totally plowed out yet either, I suspect they'll get to that today...which means the remnants of the Everest and K2 piles they left for the season will be revitalized...maybe those remnants will be gone by May...

 ::pullhair::

Don't even want to think about the lake...this will all add to an already unbearably too much flooding issue...and I hope the old roof up there and skylight are holding up and not leaking.  I will have to get up there maybe this coming weekend...

 ::praying::

Sounds like it will be memorable in the sense the Halloween Storm was memorable.

I feel for you.

I took the car to the mechanic this AM and walked home with the dog. 25 deg f. I just walked down to pick it up. 51 deg f. 65 deg f Monday!
People are wearing shorts. One guy had his motorcyle out. Yay!

There is at least half a foot of snow on the ground, melting fast. The good news is that we already had a couple snow melts so hopefully the flooding won't be so bad.  Last week I could see grass in my back yard.

Low flood chance in Fargo this year. They mainly get hit becasue the river flows and melts south to north. Also, there is no valley in the red river valley.

Yesterday was 86 here, today the high was 77 and there's a frost warning for tonight.

Oh, and maybe because of the up/down weather (that's what mom would say), Gunsmith is sick for the 3rd time since January, Pandora soon to follow.  I'm still coughing from the last bout.

True dat; that's where Gunsmith's been most of the day -- sleeping.  I'd like to crawl into my bed m'self but I have chicken that has to be cutlet-ed and fried today.

Heh, funny.  Spouses get double-duty when the other goes down.  Funnier still since I meant to type g-l-e-e-p.  Bloody spell checker!
