Yellow Dog is an old mining company town just a few miles down the road from me that was abandoned and fallen into disrepair.
An ambitious man and his daughter are beginning to restore it.
I thought this was pretty cool.

Interesting - wish the entire group well. Their undertaking is momentous, but it seems under good hands. Hope you can keep us posted on their future endeavors.

Ironically, I got unretired for the 3rd (or 4th) time in the last 2-1/2 years.
One of the drivers that works "for me" is the narrator in the video.
He told me the other day that he's working to earn the money for the project.

Yeah, that's pretty cool, looks like a nice little patch of quiet. But it's gonna take a fine bit of money and manpower to fix those water, sewer and building issues....but I bet once cleaned up it will be nice. The other thing is, and they glossed over it quickly, is the risk of cave-in's. Hopefully there are some good records as to the layout underneath and areas to avoid stomping around up top and/or shore up below. It would stink to put a lot of effort into something and have it get swallowed.

I don't think cave ins are an issue.
Some of it was deep mined but there was a lot of strip mining and most of it was across the hill side.
But the water and sewage have been long standing issues.
Not sure if he's going to fix the houses up for people to live in again.
He said somewhere about, maybe, getting craftsmen in and, maybe some shops and live demonstrations

Yeah, I took it that he wanted folks to come in and invest in a lot, spruce it up however they like as long as it stays period accurate, and transform the town into a bit of living history. Which has been done to whatever extent from one end of the country to the other.
It's a matter of finding interested people willing to make the investment of time and money.
As long as the water/sewer thing gets resolved. Not sure how this guy is organized or who he has on board now, but these things tend to be labors of love, so gotta find like-minded folk.

The previous owner was a certified water plant manager.
Besides treatment, I'd bet water lines are bad as well as sewer lines.
I'd talked to the owner about looking at crowdfunding and hope to meet with him to see if I can help in any way

There are a lot of ghost towns here in Washington state. A few are like this, most are much more deteriorated. I've done some exploring and want to do more. I always held a "romantic" notion of adopting one as a retreat from (un)civilized society.
