Title: DAR-genealogy
Post by: LadyVirginia on October 02, 2013, 03:44:01 PM
My application has been approved! ::snoopydance::

I only started this ancestry search 2 years ago--it was all by accident.  I was telling my oldest about my grandparents (stories I'd never told her) and she looked them up on the internet and discovered my grandmother's maiden name (I'd forgotten it) and very quickly discovered her relationship to an American patriot.  I can't tell you how excited I was.  I loved reading about the early patriots when I was a kid.  My excitement quite honestly was tempered by the reality of what's happening in this country but then I realized that I had to honor my g+ grandfather patriot by completing an application for DAR and getting my name on their rolls.  I did it for my kids so they understand that what he fought for is still valuable today and I hope they carry that knowledge with them and pass it to their families too.

That is stellar, LV.  As you belong on the rolls, you should be on there.

A friend is trying to trace his Indian ancestry back to be included in the tribal rolls, and they do not make it easy.

I can imagine.

My dad once told me that we had Amer Indian on my mom's side (and who doesn't ? lol especially if you're a politician) but we haven't traced all her line yet so who knows.  But it became apparent that it wasn't recent enough to qualify for casino cash.  dang.
