Throw back to another generation  ::unknowncomic:: - need Naru jackets and striped bell bottoms to watch and listen to, while counting the bubbles rising in the lava lamp and hitting maryjane alot. [But who remembers if they were the "good old days", cause they certainly lead to the declines we see now  ::pullhair:: ]  If I still had one I have the urge to burn my draft card - because then I enlisted so couldn't do that --- shyt  ::oldman::

Very well produced - I liked it.

For the last few years my brother has kept me from turning total hermit by dragging me into the local bluegrass music scene. I think I've mentioned that we host a jam that features live band performances. This year will be the fifth year that I've produced the sound for the event.

I've also been lured back into playing. I used to play blues/rock in the SRV/Robin Trower/David Gilmour vein so the intricacies of bluegrass is a bit new to me. The songs themselves are simple enough but providing a suitable lead guitar riff has been challenging. I often find myself mashing up something from ZZ Top or Allman Bros....or The Beatles ;')

The reaction has been....interesting. There are purists (just like with practically anything) who sniff a bit or look down their nose at me - but they usually keep pretty quiet when everybody else is nodding and laughing and asking "where the heck did that come from!"

I hear the nuances and the patterns of songs and have always loved to thread them together. I also like doing the unexpected like playing a rock tune and inserting a riff from Sinatra's "Strangers in The Night" into the lead. Or "Farmer In The Dell" ;') Music should be fun and should make you feel better so I tend to tease those who get too stiff and grumpy about their music.

Celebrating Jon Lord, featuring Ian Paice playing Ian Paice.  As the mid 70's version was really a dual singer lineup, returning to the fold to play Glenn Hughes is Glenn Hughes.  Taking the David Coverdale vocal part is our namesake, THE Bruce Dickinson.  As it apparently takes two keyboardists to take the place of Jon Lord, current DP keyboardist Don Airey is joined by Rick Wakeman to play the part of Jon Lord.  Result?

Sheer awesomeness.   ::guitar::

Holy smokes that is awesome. I'm not usually a fan of the rock-band-expands-its-horizons-by-melding-with-a-full-orchestra maneuver. But that was perfect.

And holy smokes, Glenn Hughes killed it.

As a side note, what is the fascination of rock stars calling their audience motherf**kers? I don't get it. Especially in a venue like that, where everyone is pretty much over 40 and paying a hefty ticket price.

That was kind of gratuitous, wasn't it?  And yes, to a crowd mostly 50 and up.

So who in the 50 and up crowd ever thought they'd see Bruce Dickinson and Rick Wakeman sharing a stage?  What's next, Keith Emerson and Lemmy?

What do you do if you're a well known conservative lawyer and want to start a band, to kill some time?.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEetdxNqqCY#t=36 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEetdxNqqCY#t=36)

Bring in John Elefante (Kansas) and John Schlitt (Head East, Petra) as your co lead singers, for starters.  Holy cow they're good!

Head East is a name I have not heard in a long long time.

ACLJ, not just a bunch of lawyers.   ::thumbsup::

How long have these guys been together?  It has to be more than slick studio production...these guys sound like they could have been playing together for years.

About the only discredit I think of for Sekulow is he is known to have been one of the guys who helped get the Dread Traitor Roberts on the bench as Chief Robe Wearer.

Never Been Any Reason still gets played regularly on KQ.  Schlitt's story is pretty inspiring.  Was encouraged by record weasels to "party hard" to impress the execs.  Got so much into the partying lifestyle he was booted from Head East.  Hit rock bottom just to have his wife drag him to church and found God.  Got cleaned up.  Went back to a real job (engineering which is what he did before Head East.)  Then a few years later got the call from Petra looking for a singer.

Now he's semi retired, doing this kind of thing, and looking pretty good for now being north of 60.

I didn't get started playing until 13 so I didn't qualify for the "Oh how cute - look at him!" deal then. Now, at the other end of the spectrum I'm still playing and now I am getting the "Oh how cute - look at him!" deal, but with an entirely different meaning ;')

Mike Oldfield is a bit of an acquired taste, but I figured I would throw it out there. He is the "Exorcist theme" guy, but he really has constantly grown and changed over his career - changing genre and style - so don't listen to this ( which is sort of irsih folksy I guess) and think its typical of him..  there is music typical of certain periods.. some is very early new age, some more European Punk . Some albums are all pop songs, others are full side instrumentals. Amarok  is a full 50 minute instrumental that basically defies description - though many have told me "crap" is the right word.. but its my favorite.. I just like he has never been afraid to leave the comfort zone of where he has been successful commercially. ( He also sucks at singing, so he always has someone else do that.. in this case this really faggy guy..probably someone I am supposed to know - but don't and don't care enough to find out)

His Music of the Sphere's album is unfortunately is only excursion into full classical music with symphony orchestra.. but play it for people who are familiar with classical music and they will start throwing out famous classic composers trying to figure out who it is..  .

I was somewhat surprised.  I figured my natural Music Horizon would be 1988 - the year I graduated High School. But listening all the way from the beginning ( 1958) I decided I actually didn't like much of anything after 1986, but nearly everything before.. but my dad listened to nothing but "oldies" so I did in fact grow up listening to it all.   I was surprised. Music had already turned to crap before I even graduated and I hadn't even noticed.

Another band enters the final stage of their career.  I've noticed the typical evolution of a band goes from

1.  Doing what they do to gain popularity.
2.  Trying to "grow" by keeping hip.  You can name countless bands in this.  REM, U2, Metallica, many others.  Some call it their Fat Elvis stage.  There are exceptions, AC/DC and Iron Maiden pretty much did the same thing over their careers.
3.  Those that do go Fat Elvis, and live longer than Elvis, eventually go back to what made them popular to begin with.  REM ended their career with two good albums, U2 gave up "growing" and are putting out good albums, again.  And Metallica?  The Metallica of St. Anger and the Lou Reed album?

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhBHL3v4d3I#)

They're back!  Language warning.

Good stuff.

Nothing like good skull-crushing metal or butt-kickin' R&R to get the blood moving!

I think your stages are probably right...for some the Fat Elvis stage isn't so bad, some sell out to popularity more than most while for some "getting popular" didn't necessarily mean going too far off the rails.  And for those that strayed a bit too far it is nice when they return home!

Mike Oldfield is another great example.  He built his rep on great instrumental albums then went kind of new age/soft rock with vocals.  I see he's been returning to his roots the past few years.

Actually Mike's career was a little more varied than that, but this new album is definitely a (second)  return to his roots. However, Mike has been [so successful for his entire career, with multiple gold and platinum albums  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Oldfield_discography) he simply doesn't need to do another album ever financially.  He lives in Bahamas, has multiple sets grandkids  from multiple sets of wives/partners and is living the good life.  I don't think he has done an album he didn't want to do since Heavan's Open and there are different periods to the music, but in my experience he has constantly been trying new things since he had the financial and contractual independence to do so, with varied success - some things I like more than others, but I don't think Mike has really ever been solidly in the pattern you describe.

The Long Instrumental Period:  Tubular Bells (1973),Hergest Ridge (1974  ), Ommadawn (1975 )   and Incantations (1978 )  were all Long ( LP side length) instrumentals - most of which were multi-track recordings of Mike playing multiple instruments, most of which were acoustic

The Punk Progressive period: Platinum (1997) , QE2 (1980 ) , Five Miles Out (1982), Crises ( 1983) were mixes of long instrumental pieces short pop songs.  The best way I can describe the style is  a mix of Progressive rock ( YES ,Rush) with a bit of punk thrown in. A lot more emphasis on electric guitar and synth, but never dropping the accousitc instruments.

The Progressive Rock period:  Discovery ( 1984) , Islands ( 1987)  dropped a lot of that punkish edge and became pretty solidly progressive rock, but still continued to mix pop songs with longer instrumentals. .

The Unhappy at Virgin Records Period:

Earth Moving (1989)  was the first full  short song, just plain  Pop Rock  album, and this was towards the end of his stint at Virgin records, who where pushing him for more commercial content. I think it suffered because of it. Its very MEH.

Amarok(1990)  was the result of Virgin pushing for a more commercial reprise of Tubular Bells, and Mike basically refused and gave them this - I think it is his BEST work  ever - Its one continuous  track , near impossible to cut up and play on the radio, and probably inaccessible to anyone who doesn't like Mike Oldfield ( a lot) already.  album's back cover reads: " HEALTH WARNING – This record could be hazardous to the health of cloth-eared nincompoops. If you suffer from this condition, consult your Doctor immediately ". It was the first studio  album to not even go silver  You cannot place this in a genre. It is Essence of Mike Oldfield.

But the contract said he owed Virgin  one more. So we get Heaven's Open by Michael Oldfield (  1991).  Its a return to the pop song with a long instrumental format. And while it has its moments, I think its the worst one he ever did. He changed the name I think in part, to distance himself from it.  More Pop rock songs, but the instrumental part is okay.

And then came the " Trying  Different Genre's and Styles , with some mandatory Commercial stuff to keep the Producers/Fans happy" period - which pretty much continues till  this day

Tubular Bells II (1992)  was that commercial revisit of the original 1973 album that Virgin wanted, but Mike did it for Warner Music (5x platnum in ESP, 2x platinum in the UK)  - Probably Best described as  instrumental progressive rock - with  elements from the first album used in new ( and I think interesting ) ways.

The Songs of Distant Earth (1994)  is the first album that plays with  a New Age sort of pace and sound. I personally liked it quite a bit.. It was also an early experiment with multi media content..(enhanced CD with a simple puzzle that unlocked a music video)

Voyager (1996)  is short instrumentals and entirely Celtic in genre.

Tubular Bells III (1998)  is a return to a long instrumental , but  is quite different in structure form  the  other two incarnations of TB. It was again a more commercial effort, in that  Progressive Rock genre - its also the last album he has done to go Platinum  ( which all the records at Warner had done till this point)

Guitars (1999) is just that - Solidly Short Guitar instrumentals. My wife still uses one of the licks as her ringtone.

The Millennium Bell (1999)  was more of that long instrumental progressive rock , but composed mostly for a concert in Berlin on new years eve, 1999

Tr3s Lunas (2002)  is back to being almost new age instrumentals, but they were mixed into a 1st person explorer video game environment as well as in album form. More experimentation  in Media and music ,and it was interesting to wander through-  after investigating certain objects, or performing a task, a new piece of music would be played. I am a little glad this isn't the only way he offered to hear it though..

Tubular Bells 2003 ( 2003)  Is Mike channeling  all George Lucas - he returned to Tubular Bells and re-recorded the whole thing on modern tech, 5 channel surround, the works. Sounds great. ( I don't really count this as a "new" album - its so close to the original)  Is this returning to what he  he became famous for?  Not really. e as remastered a number of the old studio albums lately, without re-recording them. This was also the last album he did with Warner..

Light + Shade (2005)  reprises a lot of the work Mike did in Tr3s Lunas,  and I can't help but call this one solidly New Age. All short instrumental pieces.

Music of the Spheres (2008)  Mike goes Full orchestra/classical on this one. I will put this album up against any of the great classical composers - its really that good, and will probably be the Magnum Opus Mike Oldfield is remembered for. It went Silver int he UK, but I have faith it will be "discovered" again  someday

Man on the Rocks ( 2014)  is all short rock songs again ( I posted one from here before)  and its again quite good in my opinion.

And then Return to Ommadawn is finally coming back to rework Ommadawn, probably  in much the same way Tubular Bells II was a rework of its predecessor. Amarok was heavily influenced by Ommadawn in structure, so  I must say I am looking forward to hearing this new one..

Point is, Mike has continuously grown as a musician, continuously tried new things - including multimedia integration and new ways to experience music, and never really stagnated in a style - new or old. I think he drew a good blance between remaining commercially viable and trying new things. .  It could be Return to  Ommadawn is just another commercial product of "give em what they want" so he can put a little more cash in the bank,  but Amorok taught me not to anticipate anything from an Oldfield album. Buy  it, Listen to it, and see what he did now, and then decide if you like it. I hope he does do another classical piece before we loose him,  because I think he really shines when he does.

I was just noting as a very casual fan of his early work, and happened to sample a couple of later efforts.  Funny thing is, I didn't see reboot of Tubular Bells as commercial, just a return to his roots.  I liked it.  Bonus points for getting Alan Rickman to do the vocals.  The budget must have been a little higher, in that regard.   ::thumbsup::

John Cleese played Master of Ceremonies on the TB 2003 release (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPSfo1eqmkI) :)
I get your point though, I am sure Virgin was pressuring him to do the Vocals/Pop songs for commercial reasons-- however it should be noted that his pop songs were very well received outside of the States, and he really is a quite well known and popular artist in Europe, Asia and the rest of the Anglosphere sans America because of his Pop songs.
In college I was playing "To France (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkQJk5wMomU)" and one of the European students came running down to my dorm room  thinking they had identified a fellow traveller :)   Moonlight Shadow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjCre83iPjE) and  Magic Touch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1qV52sXZCM) were also quite popular.  Magic Touch actually got to #10 in the States at one point. I remember my sister coming and and saying listen to this- I think you will like it, not realizing that she had told me that se hated  TBI because it sounded like "Chuck Berry walking down a country road"

Which later works did you sample and find wanting? ( I certainly have some that aren't my favorites.  I don't hate them, but I don't spin them up often either)

I personally really liked TBII as well, but it definitely had a different sound to it than the original acoustic albums...more of an updating of roots than a return in my opinion.. and very commercial, which is why  Virgin was pushing him to do it, and why it was the first album he delivered to his new label.  But if you like the long instrumentals, there  are several albums that have really good ones:  Platinum/platinum (Live version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9H-uKjqbNY)) , QE2/Taurus 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uil75TP_Wjk), Five Miles out/Taurus II (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pl71Na8ofc),  Crises/Crises (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXBQsQZbQuY), and  Islands/Wind Chimes part II (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW7oguajZjs&list=RDTW7oguajZjs#t=510) are all worth a listen from the Pre-TB II time period. And if you aren't a cloth ear'd nincompoop, you can give Amarok (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IRl5KEeCEo) a try.

Songs of Distant Earth  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRKmK4K6Jew&list=PLCyc012TCafuTiEYBXj5o0dDHWBEJ1aYx&index=1)is overall a good full length instrumental Album, but what makes it good is , you know, all of it. It doesn't work as an excerpt really. But its really more new-age ...

Top of the morning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3qt8IMTXq0&list=PLxCe9JsWUBle7S3gLrTqnehbm4UR5hj5q&index=7)  is my favorite track on TBIII, which is another full length instrumental, most of which is pretty good. Millennial Bell is also in this category. I tend to pull these off the shelf every year or two, and think, wow, this is better than I remember, and then not listen to it again for two years.

And then  Music of the Spheres (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzaAk2aT4bc&list=PLJF8hMlQCOxltAVdkcjf8M1mhxJVpKuj6)  really is the master work ( providing you LIKE classical music)

I'd say to generalize, Islands (new agey) and Earth Moving (poppy) would best represent that period.

Keep in mind I'm just sampling my mp3's in the evening when the wife is busy and all I have to do is play on the computer sipping moderate quantities of soju.   ::beertoast::

The video features 2 of my fishing spots. The one on the bus with the swamp in the background is the Atchafalaya Basin. The largest wetland swamp in the U.S.

The one where he's standing on the boat dock is Lake Martin. Not much larger than a pond, but decent fishing and excellent gator and bird watching.

So got the new Mike Oldfield, Return to Ommadawn.  I actually like the 5.1 mix better,  which is the first time I can say that.  The others were so -- gimmicky.  Mike just uses the extra speakers to create a larger sound stage and separation between instruments,  which I felt was to  good effect. Musically this is classic Oldfield,  very much a return to his roots, so for those looking for that,  you will be pleased I think. Its a little bit raw in places - notes not sync'd with other tracks, some harshness from buzzing frets, it feels  more like a live performance, but its hard to tell if that is  intentional or simply a fact of Oldfield being 63 and maybe not being able to play as well as he once could. Either way, I likes the feel of it.

In preparation for this arriving I took Ommadawn back off the shelf.. I had never thought much of the album-- there wasn't a hook in it - a bit I wanted to play over and over. But damned if I didn't find myself humming different bits of it for the next couple of weeks after playing it this time.  I suspect Return to Ommadawn will be much the same way .. I like a lot of it, but nothing stands out as "this is the bit"  -  but overall I bet I end up humming different sections for weeks from this one too.  This one very much feels like an older, wiser man coming home.   "On Horseback? I  would rather be here. "

More than a bit of music, actually, but a pretty inspirational story I never knew.

https://vimeo.com/143462662 (https://vimeo.com/143462662)

New York Doll, about New York Dolls bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane.  The New York Dolls were a proto punk band mostly known for spinning off the career of David Johansen, aka Buster Poindexter.  Back to the flick, it's the story of Kane's life.  You can see sadness in him, knowing how he pissed away his chance at the big time because of alcohol, a little jealousy of Johansen for his success, yet he's happy where he's at, a Mormon, believe it or not.  And you can see the happiness in him when he finally gets his shot to do it right, as a New York Dolls reunion is scheduled.  And ultimately sadness, knowing he died just three weeks after that concert, of leukemia.

If you like the music, a complex character, and an emotional roller coaster ride, give it a watch.

I am old.
Until the half time time show I never really heard or saw Shakira. I figured she was some low talent skank.
One minute I was watching football the next I am having some crotch shoved toward my face.  So at first I was offended during her performance but grew to like it with the belly dancing and more athletic dancing.
I looked her up. She is part Lebanese and grew up in a city in Columbia that has the second oldest or biggest (cannot remember) carnival parade, after Rio, prior to Lent.  Some of the dancers in the Columbia parade are fully clothed, many are mostly naked like in Rio. So she grew up with this bawdy pelvic dancing in public.

I recall she was taken to a Lebanese restaurant at 4 and started dancing on the table.

Anyway, once I realized she was doing Latin and middle eastern dancing, not Miley Cyrus shank stuff I loved her.

I found this earlier music video. I love it.

Burt Bacharach led me to this.
I never saw this video before, posted 4 months ago.
I fell in love with Sergio Mendes long ago.
I saw them live at the 1971 Wisconsin State fair.
I never saw the old photos of Lani Hall and where she sang in Chicago.
I heard that Sergio heard her sing in some Chicago coffee house and hired her at 19.
She had to ask her parents as she lived with them.
She moved to LA. Herb Alpert is the A in A&M records. A nice Jewish boy from LA.
She quit the band to stop touring and married Herb Alpert. Married now over 40 years.

Years ago I got hooked on Within Temptation with lead singer Sharon den Adel.
Sharon never had any voice training they say. People compared her and them to Turunen and Night Wish. Tarja left and now the lead singer is Floor Jansen. The style of all is called symphonic metal or operatic metal or goth metal. I never really listened to the later two until now. I am not a good judge of voice but they seem very talented. Tarja is more restrained, classically trained, and sings lots of classical now.

I could get hooked on both.

...Floor saw Henk Poort as the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera when she was a child. He's her childhood hero, so singing this song with him is a dream come true for her.

Quote
Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli (born 17 August 1977), known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish heavy metal singer, best known as the former lead vocalist of Nightwish. She is a soprano with a three and a half octave range. [1] [2] [3] [4] Turunen studied singing at Sibelius Academy and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe.
Quote
Floor Jansen is a Dutch singer and songwriter. She is the lead vocalist of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Jansen first became known as a member of symphonic metal band After Forever, standing as their lead vocalist from 1997, when she joined at age 16, to their disbanding in 2009.

I never much liked Phantom of the Opera music. I just learned that Nightwish has played it going way back. They looked freaky but maybe I should not have judged a book by the cover.

This TV show has singers on the couches watching other singers, taking turns singing. Here they are watching Floor Jansen sing. They are having what is called "floorgasms." Yeah, I learned a new word.

I love how the witcher unites the slavic people. A Russian person covering a Croatian song from a Polish game. Also great job on the pronunciation, greetings from Croatia! :D

To alleviate the confusion,, Alina is a Russian artist. The song is a Croatian folk song from island Krk. It's in an old local dialect. She's performing it exceptionally well.

This is simply... astounding.
As a native Croatian speaker, I assure you that you have pronounced every word as a local (from Kvarner region) would.
Beautiful cover by the great artist!

The site does not like Russian characters.

I got hooked on Alina Gingertail videos. She is from the Russian far east, near the Chinese border. She covers mostly music from video games which sometimes include folk songs. I recently discovered some older videos, before she got better at singing and mimicking foreign languages. Turns out she is kinda a geek and still plays at what I would call Renaissance Fairs. She seems to really like playing music. I mean like hanging out in friends' apartment and playing.

I found some older videos. Here are a few samples. She is cuter than a box of kittens.
This is why the internet was invented.

I found a Q&A video from 2015, 8 years ago. She is apparently a very private person but performs in a folk group on stage. Go figure.

She said her first instrument was a broken mandala (mandolin?) with only 3 strings so she tuned it like the 3 stringed domra.

Here she is 10 years ago with a real domra but her singing is not very good. Singing I'll give everything for grog, in Russian

Seems folks are resonating with those who are fed up with the oppression and persecution the elites are inflicting upon is...

First, Aldean's "Try that in a small town"...now this Anthony fella has 9 of the iTunes top 20 including the first 3 spots!

The DeepState goons at the CIA acting through their subsidiary Wikipedia have labelled inflation a right-wing talking point...

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/inflation-labeled-right-wing-talking-point-response-hit-working-class-song (https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/inflation-labeled-right-wing-talking-point-response-hit-working-class-song)

See that?  They are hoping people suffering under Obamian oppression via corrupt and fraudulent FJB regime policies of destruction of normals and subsidizing parasites are morons, that their loss of purchasing power devalued by federal deficit spending on crap like the slaughter in Ukraine and fat contracts to cronies that launders money back to corrupt politicians and screws the people over is all a bunch of lies spewed by political opponents they are systematically destroying with every act.

Did you catch that? Inflation apparently is now “a right-wing talking point” instead of an economic phenomenon broadly defined today as a general and sustained increase in consumer prices and a decline in the value of money.

The claim is bizarre.

There's nothing partisan about inflation, after all. It affects everyone. Rich and poor. Republican, Democrat, and Independent. People of every sex, race, and creed.

For decades, the term "silent killer" has been used by scholars, economists, and financial asset managers to describe inflation because of the gradual and often unnoticed erosion of purchasing power it causes.

Inflation has destroyed civilizations (Rome) and ushered in totalitarian regimes (Mao in China), which is why it has been decried by an array of intellectuals who were hardly “right-wingers.”

The writer Ernest Hemingway, who moved to Spain during the Spanish Civil War to oppose Franco and wrote for Pravda because he hated fascism so much, called inflation “the first panacea for a mismanaged nation.” (The second, he added, was war.)

John Maynard Keynes, the staunch anti-conservative English economist who became arguably the most influential macroeconomic thinker in history, warned in 1919 (pdf) that Vladimir Lenin “is said to have declared that the best way to destroy the capitalist system was to debauch the currency.”

“By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens,” Keynes wrote.

“The sight of this arbitrary rearrangement of riches strikes not only at security but [also] at confidence in the equity of the existing distribution of wealth.”

More recently, Lawrence Summers, the former president of Harvard and an economist that served in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, warned that inflation is undermining confidence in the American political system.

“It’s clear that inflation is significantly contributing to distrust in the institutions and to pessimism about the future,” Mr. Summers recently told The Harvard Gazette.

Clearly, one needn’t be a right-winger to be concerned about inflation.

Yeah, and this from merely a song by a struggling American...

Clearly, this begs to multiply such expressions!!!  The totalitarians are hitting all panic buttons...time to make them play whack-a-mole !

This is different. A virtual chorus from some video game I never heard of but apparently had good music.
10 years after the original release they made this.
Apparently the women singers all do covers of video game music.
Apparently this music is the last song in the game and had an emotional effect on players. I never heard of ti.

London Symphony Orchestra covers this song?
Alina Gingertail at 30 sec and 3:25 I think the visuals are from the game. Role playing game. Technology has come a long way to make this happen.

I don't know why I find these music videos so addicting. Maybe it is because the melodies are from video games/anime and are simple. Also the female singer is pretty. She dresses up according to a character from the game it seems. Gamers get some references I do not.

The Judas Priest video in the woods reminded me of this one of her and a male who does similar things.

I did not know this about Dolly Parton. Apparently she is considered a great musician by musicians, Up there with Prince. She wrote 3,000 songs? BTW Prince was  local. I did not like his music but apparently he played lots of instruments. Vox Day knew him from the club scene, said he was a workaholic. He was a Jehovah's Witness and went door to door.

I did not know this about her. I knew about most others on the list. Roy Clark. Glenn Campbell. Karen Carpenter.

(Dolly) Those range from acoustic and electric guitar to the dulcimer, autoharp, banjo, fiddle, piano, and saxophone. With typical modesty, she told Vogue in 2016, “Oh, I play some of everything. I ain't that good at none of it, but I try to sell it.

“Jolene” was written on the same day in 1973 that Parton composed “I Will Always Love You”. Another smash hit that’s more than proved its staying power over the decades. “Jolene” was released as a single on October 15, 1973, followed by “I Will Always Love You” on March 11th of the following year. Not long after the album both songs appeared on, Jolene, came out.

Here is some different music. A cover of some music from Japanese Anime. Apparently the costumes are related to the anime.
The comments to some of her songs are interesting. Her spotify  thing said she has listeners in 178 countries which I find odd.

OK. So I found another Alina Gingertail song. There is  a metal folk band that wrote a  song. that is a tear jerker.
The youtube comments are awesome. The original band had a female lead Anna who is long gone and missed. The lyrics are  tear jerkers. About a pregnant Gaul woman, likely dead husband, fleeing the Romans, begging the goddess epona, who was normally given rose offerings. .  The comments spaz out about the timestamp around 2:47

https://youtu.be/dh2PNxnXQuU
Eluveitie - A Rose for Epona (Gingertail Cover)
turn on cc to watch

Here is the original

ELUVEITIE - A Rose For Epona (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)

https://youtu.be/Zg_AenWTXqM

"The song "A Rose For Epona" appears about in the middle of the storyline - so, it tells about the time when the gaulish war broke out already. The Helvetians decided to leave their homeland and migrate to the west coast of Gallia, to start a new life there.

In the time the song tells about, many Helvetians had to face pretty much shattered hopes. And so does the protagonist, from whose viewpoint the song is written: A young gaulish woman. She was part of the helvetic migration, but after the battle of Bibracte, all hopes that she and her people would ever reach their new home were torn to pieces.

Furthermore you can imagine: She probably had lost her husband on the battlefields of Bibracte and she had to face fact that she can be glad if their common newborn child would not be killed and she herself would be sold into roman slavery.

To sum it up: Her situation was desperate. In this situation "our" young gaulish woman despairs, can't accept her fate and turns to her goddess Epona... and accuses her for having forsaken her people. This is what the song expresses.

On a historical note: "Epona" was a gaulish goddess which was, among other things, in charge of taking care of horsemen and the cavallery. All over Gallia there were Epona temples where people traditionally offered up freshly cut roses or rose petals to their goddess."
