The Saigon-like horror unfolds...
On Monday, the press reported shocking scenes of thousands of "utterly desperate" Afghan civilians fleeing their homes and mobbing the Kabul international airport tarmac in the wake of the rapid Taliban takeover of Kabul.
According to WSJ and other English-language media outlets, at least three people have died Monday during the frenzied struggle to leave. A group of 60 nations has asked the Taliban to allow any refugees who desire to leave the country to do so without inflicting harm on them or their families.
American troops are now attempting to secure and provide order at Karzai International Airport as military airlifts of American personnel continue. Shots have been fired as American troops arrive to find the security situation spiraling out of control, potentially making safe airport operations - including flights in and out - next to impossible if it's not brought under order.
Thousands of Afghans who haven't received permission to emigrate are fleeing to the airport anyway, believing it may be their only chance for survival amid rumors that flights are now taking whoever can force their way aboard. As desperate Afghans rushed packed passenger planes, some soldiers fired warning shots as hundreds of Afghans who breached the perimeter and then rushed to board an idling C-17 transport aircraft, a Western military official said. At certain points, American troops fired lethal rounds into the air to try and force the crowds to disperse. Military personnel were forced to try and clear the runways with low-flying helicopters, from which they tossed smoke grenades and fired live ammo. The city fell to the Taliban on Sunday, after fighters massed outside the city, eventually the Taliban leadership took over the presidential palace.

A few weeks later, the Afghan president fled Kabul with sacks full of plundered cash just before the Taliban surrounded the city. He's now believed to be hiding in the UAE.
Although Biden seemed aware that the situation on the ground appeared grim, Biden demanded that Ghani project "a different picture" to the press and the international community "whether or not it was true".
“I need not tell you the perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban,” Biden said. “And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture."
Biden told Ghani that if Afghanistan’s prominent political figures were to give a press conference together, backing a new military strategy, "that will change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think."
It's also clear that Biden knew it was only a matter of time before the Taliban completed its takeover of the country. His main goal was making sure Ghani did everything in his power to try and manage the Afghan Army's defeat with as little embarrassment as possible.
Despite probably knowing that details from his final call with Ghani would surface, Biden repeated his claims that nobody could have anticipated the Taliban's rapid advance.
During the call, the Afghan president pleaded with Biden for more air support and a raise for Afghan soldiers who hadn't received one in a decade, Biden offered mostly platitudes.
"We are going to continue to fight hard, diplomatically, politically, economically, to make sure your government not only survives, but is sustained and grows," said Biden.
By the time the two leaders spoke on July 23, roughly 23 days before the fall of Kabul, Taliban insurgents controlled roughly half of Afghanistan's district centers as the situation in the country rapidly deteriorated. Around this time, Biden insisted that the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban wasn't inevitable.
Although the situation in Afghanistan was already dire, and the American forces were withdrawing their air support, Biden continued to push Ghani about holding a press conference to announce a new military "strategy" that was really just window dressing.
"But I really think, I don’t know whether you’re aware, just how much the perception around the world is that this is looking like a losing proposition, which it is not, not that it necessarily is that, but so the conclusion I’m asking you to consider is to bring together everyone from [Former Vice President Abdul Rashid] Dostum, to [Former President Hamid] Karzai and in between," he said.
"If they stand there and say they back the strategy you put together, and put a warrior in charge, you know a military man, Khan in charge of executing that strategy, and that will change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think."
Ghani responded by saying Afghanistan was facing not just the Taliban, but their foreign backers.
"We are facing a full-scale invasion, composed of Taliban, full Pakistani planning and logistical support, and at least 10-15,000 international terrorists, predominantly Pakistanis thrown into this."

Encrypted text messages between an Army colonel and a former Special Forces soldier working on a private effort to extricate stranded Americans from Afghanistan reveal that the US evacuation was anything but the 'extraordinary success' President Biden declared on Tuesday.
"We are f**king abandoning American citizens," said an Army colonel assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in an encrypted Sunday text message to Michael Yon, who revealed the message to Just the News.
Yon told Just the News that a group of Americans were abandoned at the Kabul airport, pleading for help as military officials told them they were finished with evacuations.
"We had them out there waving their passport screaming, 'I'm American,'" Yon said Tuesday while appearing on the John Solomon Reports podcast. -Just The News

The stranded Americans eventually scattered to safe houses to avoid capture by the Taliban, after which Yon wrote a 'stinging email' to an Army major whose team abandoned the rescue effort.
"You guys left American citizens at the gate of the Kabul airport," wrote Yon on Tuesday. "Three empty jets paid for by volunteers were waiting for them. You and I talked on the phone. I told you where they were. Gave you their passport images. And my email and phone number. And you left them behind."
"Great job saving yourselves. Probably get a lot of medals," he added.
While the helper group worked frantically to get the Americans through the gate, members texted one another to say they had seen National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on CNN saying that neither he nor U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Kenneth McKenzie were told that Americans were abandoned.
"Hey did they end up just taking off?" one correspondent texted the helper group. "Because the National Security Advisor just told Tapper that neither he nor McKenzie had heard anything about Americans being left at the gates."
The correspondent noted that the private group heard differently from a lieutenant colonel (O-5): "Given we had comms with an O-5 on the ground, that means CENTCOM C3 is s--t, or someone is lying."
According to the private rescue effort, the US Army was told by the State Department not to rescue the Americans.
"We get them to the gate, and the U.S. Army completely fails this saying, 'Oh, we can't do it, because the Department of the State tells us we can't do it," Yon told Just the News.

When you look at the actual policy that was being executed, this is where you will find an almost identical outcome between Afghanistan and the former Libya mess.
Mike Morell was put into place by Barack Obama after the Benghazi attack took place. In the aftermath of the attack; and with massive political issues about to happen; both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton needed to remove CIA Director David Petraeus. Again, falling back on the construct of the Intelligence Branch of Government – you will note that Obama used former Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate Petraeus under the auspices of a relationship with a journalist named Paula Broadwell {Go Deep}.
Attorney General Eric Holder investigated CIA Director David Petraeus for allowing journalist Paula Broadwell to see and know Petraeus’ scheduling calendar. That calendar was the “classified information” leak that led to the framework to remove Petraeus. It was a tenuous stretch but it worked. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Petraeus he needed to step down.
That was how Mike Morell was installed as the Acting CIA Director with the goal to protect Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama from the outcome of covert missile sales to Libyan rebels, that were really al-Qaeda factions in eastern Libya (Beghazi).
The Defense Department (Secretary Bob Gates) did not want to arm the Libyan rebels, because he knew those missiles could be used against our forces. The State Department, Hillary Clinton, and the CIA, Leon Panetta, conducted the missile sales despite the Pentagon admonitions and refusal to go along with it. That covert arming of al-Qaeda (AQAP) was “Operation Zero Footprint”.
With the “olive branch” (State Dept/CIA) conducting the operation, the “arrows” (Pentagon) were in the dark.
President Obama was all-in to arm the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Qaeda is a faction); after all, the ‘Arab Spring’ was an ideological shift in the mid-east by the U.S. with the intention to support the Muslim Brotherhood. The Arab Spring could not have happened without Obama supporting it. In fact, Obama initiated it with his speech in Cairo Egypt, his first foreign trip.
When it became evident to Defense Secretary Bob Gates what Clinton and Panetta were doing, with Obama’s approval, the defense secretary stepped down. Bob Gates did not want to participate in shifting the tenuous balance in the mid-east. President Obama then replaced Bob Gates by moving Leon Panetta from CIA Director to defense secretary. Panetta was replaced in the CIA by David Petraeus, with Operation Zero Footprint (arming Muslim Brotherhood factions) already taking place.
Everything taking place in Benghazi, Libya, in the fall of 2012 was an outcome of attempting to get the missiles back from al-Qaeda after Gaddaffi was overthrown. Initially they were going to shift those missiles to the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, but they lost control over the internal al-Qaeda factions in Syria (al-Nusra, ISIS) and quickly realized this was going to end up in a massively political mess (it was an election year). Those missiles were showing up everywhere, including Afghanistan, and the U.S. military commanders on the ground had no idea where they were coming from.
It was the urgent shift in policy (Obama, Clinton, Panetta) from supporting al-Qaeda to now cutting them off from weapons they needed, that caused the Libyan al-Qaeda elements, to turn against Ambassador Chris Stevens and attack the compound in Benghazi.
Turkish Diplomat Consul General Ali Sait Akin made one last trip to see Ambassador Chris Stevens to ask him to support the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria by continuing with the agreement already in place. When Stevens told him the U.S. policy had shifted, Ali Sait Akin left the Benghazi compound and within minutes the attack began.
The U.S. Generals had no idea what was happening in Benghazi because the entire operation was State Department and CIA. The Pentagon was clueless. When the contracted CIA security reached out for help during the Benghazi attack, the U.S. military -specifically AFRICOM General Carter Ham- was caught off-guard because they never knew about the Benghazi operations in the first place.
Can you see a parallel to what happened recently in Afghanistan?
The State Department, CIA and Intelligence Community (writ large), aka “Team-Two” were in charge of Kabul in an almost identical way they were in charge of Benghazi. When they lose control and everything starts going sideways, and they come under terrorist attacks, they shift blame to the Pentagon (Team-One).
What Mike Morell is doing in that interview is protecting the intelligence system from which he came. This is a similar motive he had for defending Hillary Clinton in the aftermath of Benghazi.
There is a stunning amount of hubris evident in Morell now when he admits the Taliban are al-Qaeda. Essentially the State Dept/CIA now saying of course they knew the Taliban were al-Qaeda; which is only a position they take today out of their need to shift the blame for Afghanistan to the Pentagon and White House (remember, Biden is disposable).
