If you guys want to put the 56 in the barn I have room. I don't know where Glock is ?
I have a BIL in Wilmington that is being told by the locals not to worry and I'm trying to get him out of there but so far not hearing me.

You mean the '55 Chevy? Thanks, but she's tucked away nice and safe in our garage.
Glock comes around only once in a blue moon now.
I hear the too-laters bitching about no gas, water, juice, food...
Preparation is equal parts intelligence, experience and timing...some people lack all three!
I saw a quote from a resident who lived a few blocks from the beach saying "We can't afford to leave".

They can afford to live a few blocks from the beach but can't afford to leave?????
What's wrong with this picture????

So far all I have is drizzle and a stiff breeze.
Take care, all. It looks horrible from the TV coverage. ::hysterical::

We've gotten some gusty wind, but mostly just rain. The power went up and down several times, it's on right now, and John and Nan are here.

Say "Howdy" to John & Nan for us. Operations on Castello de Florida on hold till this mess is over...hopefully with no ill effect for all concerned. ::praying::

Were good with a little help from our friends. Thinks will get on track real soon.
With all that is going on in the Carolinas over the past few days I forgot to mention that we had a "freak" storm pass through our area day before yesterday. It hit very suddenly with gusts into the 40's and rain like I've seldom seen in these parts. Not good for all the trees still sporting heavy foliage.
I heard a craa-ack! and instantly knew that it was a tree coming down. Grabbed my raingear and headed out the back door to where we usually have the downed trees and branches. Nothing to speak of there and no other damage, so I headed back in out of the rain.
A few minutes later I saw the emergency lights reflecting through the front window and looked out the front to see the fire department responding to a neighbors 60 foot Maple tree split down the middle and laying across the road. I helped cut up the remains and clear the street. Neighbor tells me that he's going to take down the rest of the tree - a shame because of the great afternoon shade it always brought me in the summertime.
But hey - I'll get a cord + of firewood out of it!

Once it cures out will you burn inside or out? Maples, pines and fruit trees will add more creosote to a chimney.
At least home and people were safe when it came down. Can always replace a tree.

I have a free-standing woodstove with a metal flue. Straight pipe. I fashioned a paint bucket into a scrubber that I run up and down the flue every year to keep it clear. I had a stack fire years ago (in a house I lost to my 2nd x) that was interesting to resolve. Learned about chimney care then.
The thing that gets most people into trouble is being stingy when burning. They load up the box and then choke off the air so that the fire smoulders. Yes, that makes the fire last a long time without feeding it fuel, but yes, it causes soot buildup.
I prefer a smaller but hotter fire. I have to tend to it a bit more often - but then I need to get off my lazy butt anyway ;'}
Good news. I have good news too, place at the lake is not an island...must not have gotten all the rain everybody else got.
