Title: Adventures In Recreational Pharma End Badly For McAfee
Post by: trapeze on November 13, 2012, 10:58:45 PM
Or they end pretty much as you might expect.

Combine millions of dollars with the uncurbed extravagances of a committed drug abuser and this is what you get:

Quote
Antivirus pioneer John McAfee is on the run from murder charges, Belize police say. According to Marco Vidal, head of the national police force's Gang Suppression Unit, McAfee is a prime suspect in the murder of American expatriate Gregory Faull, who was gunned down Saturday night at his home in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye.

Details remain sketchy so far, but residents say that Faull was a well-liked builder who hailed originally from Florida. The two men had been at odds for some time. Last Wednesday, Faull filed a formal complaint against McAfee with the mayor's office, asserting that McAfee had fired off guns and exhibited "roguish behavior." Their final disagreement apparently involved dogs.

Apparently McAfee was very serious about destroying himself and unfortunately one of his neighbors got in his way. The guy was made intensely crazy by his repeated and heavy use of hallucinogenic compounds probably combined with sleep deprivation and other unhealthy behaviors which brought on psychotic type stuff...paranoia, delusions, etc.

Quote
In July of 2010...McAfee began posting on a drug-focused Russian-hosted message board called Bluelight about his attempts to purify the psychoactive compounds colloquially known as "bath salts."

Writing under the name "stuffmonger," a handle he has used on other online message boards, McAfee posted more than 200 times over the next nine months about his ongoing quest to purify psychoactive drugs from compounds commercially available over the internet. "I'm a huge fan of MDPV," he wrote. "I think it's the finest drug ever conceived, not just for the indescribable hypersexuality, but also for the smooth euphoria and mild comedown."

Elsewhere, he described his pursuit of "super perv powder" and warned about the dangers of handling the freebase version of the drug: "I had visual and auditory hallucinations and the worst paranoia of my life." He recommended that the most effective way to take a dose is via rectal insertion, a procedure known as "plugging," writing: "Measure your dose, apply a small amount of saliva to just the tip of your middle finger, press it against the dose, insert. Doesn't really hurt as much as it sounds. We're in an arena (drugs/libido) that I navigate as well as anyone on the planet here. If you take my advice about this (may sound gross to some of you perhaps), you will be well rewarded."

And why did he start down this road?

The specific properties of the drugs he was attempting to isolate also fit in well with what those closest to him have reported: that he is an enthusiastic amateur pharmacologist with a longstanding interest in drugs that induce sexual behavior in women. Indeed, former friends of McAfee have said he could be extremely persistent and devious in trying to coerce women who rebuff his advances to have sex with him.

So, you have zillions of dollars and you choose to become an amateur drug engineer with your sole purpose to create a compound which turns women into compliant sex bunnies?

On the face of it this is absurd.

But, okay...you do all this and it ends with you on the run from the local federales (when you should be in a psycho ward) because you ventilated your next door neighbor's brain.

Lots of snarky comments at the link about how McAfee got what he deserved after putting the worst anti-virus software ever on millions of computers.

Example comment:

So basically the main thing MDPV has in common with McAfee products is if you shove both in your ass they'll probably work better.

And now that he's on the run he has been phoning some reporter for Wired who has been putting up tweets of these phone calls all day. You can find those here. (http://twitchy.com/2012/11/13/wired-reporter-live-tweets-murder-suspect-mcafees-run-from-police/) The tweets reinforce the image of a psychotic nut on the run. It will be nothing short of a miracle if there isn't more blood spilled before this ends.

Sort of reminds me of a murderous version of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. Hunter S. Thompson did end up blowing his head off in the end.

One of the tweets from the reporter:

McAfee called just now: "I am adept at hiding. I will do whatever it takes to stay alive."

I'd be willing to bet a large sum that he first smoked pot as his initiation into drug use that eventually led to harder drug abuse and finally psychosis.

I'm not trying to make that point although you are almost certainly correct.

I just find this a curious kind of human interest story where wretched excess driven by raw carnality meets up with unlimited funding. I imagine this is Bill Clinton in an alternate universe.

Still another epic failure of morality in our society. If he read and understood the Bible's teaching, I don't think he would have started down this path to personal destruction. Like Ann Barnhardt constantly harps, another example of moral depravity.  ::puke::

Nah, but any chemicals you have sitting under the kitchen sink remain at risk...
