Title: What would you do?
Post by: Libertas on March 08, 2011, 07:37:43 AM
Poor kid, what he had to endure, what the parents had to live with over these many years, knowing the fate of thier little boy!  I am beyond words!  And as for what the father said, I don't think I would have said it any different!

It is for men like him that the death penalty is just and necessary.  And because no one should have to be concerned about him being let loose in society ever again.

If anything like this ever happened to my wife or children, the only thing keeping me from exacting revenge would be the fact that those remaining need their husband/father in the aftermath of such a tragedy.

Considering the father is probably getting on in years by now, he probably feels even less inhibited about what he might lose by doing so. I would not blame him at all.

Anyone who could murder a 5 year old boy and then boast in a journal about eating the child's flesh does not need to waste one more molecule of our oxygen. He should have been dead decades ago. A crime that horrific demands vengeance. That's what liberals don't get when they argue against the death penalty saying it is not a deterrent. Its deterrent value is not the point. It's a punishment for the most egregious crimes. This animal is the poster boy for it.

Ah, yes but the death penalty is pretty tame these days. Lethal injection is about the most humane and wimpy way to off someone.

No one is executed by hanging anymore. Or the electric chair.  Or the gas chamber. Pity. Public hangings and such would go a very long way toward ending capital crimes. Especially if there is no hood placed over the head. I have never seen a public hanging but a friend recounted one in Singapore and the description was sobering.

Utah has the firing squad but it is reserved for aggravated murder only. And like lethal injection, it's hidden from the public.

I'm not kidding about this, though. Public executions should be the law of the land and reserved for the worst of the worst. They should put it on pay-per-view and give the proceeds to victims of violent crimes.

Sadly, we have become a nation of pathetic geldings (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/books/nature_vs_neuter_T39eg8qogTgxMuF4Dmwf0O), too sensitive to deal with life's harder realities.

I've always lamented the irony of a culture that celebrates "Jackass" and the debauchery typically found on u-tube, but shields executions from us because they're "too violent". I really don't think this society can sink any lower.

I'm with Hemm - "luck and a steady hand".

Reminds me of a story from Louisiana over twenty years ago . Same basic scenario except the father didn't wait for the courts to act . When the police were bringing the extradited ( and cofessed ) a**hole back to Baton Rouge , the Dad was waiting at the Baton Rouge airport and capped the s.o.b. as he was being escorted trough the terminal .

To cut to the chase , a sympathetic jury made damned sure that the Dad only did a few months in a minimum security facility .

I remember that.  The perp was one of them sadistic pederast homicidal types if I recall correctly.  He got what he deserved, may in fact got off light, and I remember thinking then just like I do now for this recent case, that I would have done the same.  These SOB's should not be given any more chances to rape, torture, kill or eat any other kids!

I've seen that video. Wasn't the dad waiting in a phone booth? When they walked past he emerged and shot the perp in the head at nearly point blank range.

It was sometime in the early 80s I think.

5 years probation. WELL worth the revenge.

He'd have got 5 MINUTES probation had I sat on his jury. Suspended and expunged.

The Baton Rouge story went state wide a day before the national media caught it. As far as the father in RI, I'll say he's not feeling very Christian right now and I don't blame him one bit.

Yeah . Between the Departure / Arrival area and main Terminal at the Baton Rouge Airport is a single corridor with a bank of pay phones along the wall to the right as your leaving the arrival area . That's where the kid's Dad was waiting . Calmly turned from the phone and capped the guy point blank . Nice job !
