Him and John Entwistle pretty must turned playing bass into a lead instrument. Definitely a pioneer. And it was only a couple of months ago he announced he had leukemia. A sad day.

Never a huge Yes fan, familiar with their music though, growing up in the era I did it would be hard to miss, but there is no doubt he influenced a lot of bands and bass players.

He also put out a heck of a Christmas album, a few years ago. And not one of those watered down, "holiday-winter" albums. A real Christmas album, so hard core he covered songs probably not heard since the middle ages, as well as some traditional.
