Finally got around to getting an AR lower to build... I intend on making this one for some hunting, but mostly target shooting, so it'll likely have a longer, heavier barrel than the average carbine.

Plus, I have another on its way to build Mrs. fordguy one unbeknownst to her...

Way cool! I wish I could get my wife interested enough for me to build her one.

I know this thread has been dead for awhile, but I did just recently finish this build... Went with an Aero Precision upper, PSA 16" 6.8SPC II barrel, ALGDefense M-lok free-floating handguard, and a Nickel Boron bolt carrier group. I have a 4-16X40 scope on it for deer hunting as well.

6.8, nice, looks sharp!
Let us know how she handles once you take her out on a proper date.

100yds
115gr Federal Fusions
1.040" from outside to outside. Wish I would have had a sled to see what she's really capable of, but that'll have to wait until I borrow my BIL's

Pretty good shootin', Tex.

Nice. She should be really good up 350 yards and able to reach out 400-500 yards easily enough...heard of people going higher but it starts getting silly anywhere over 500 I suspect even for a serious shooter. Rough guess is she should double your range over a 5.56, especially if using Barnes TTSX or Hornady 120 SST rounds, which IIRC on the various AR forums gets high praise. You got a good 'un.

Thanks guys!
Libertas, I intend to try several different projectiles, and I'll be handloading to reach the accuracy potential... The 6.8SPC has a max point blank range of 261 yds with a 224yd zero and no deviation greater than +/-3" with 115gr ammo, so out to 500yds or so shouldn't be out of the question at all...

Awesome! ::beertoast::

Next up....do an 80% lower because you can.

Friend of mine wants to do that....with a file. He's retired so he's got the time.

I've been seriously considering it, but want to get a drill press first...
