Hello, this is my greeting message.
As long as I can remember I have been a Libertarian, but I only learned the term after leaving high school some 16 years ago. Over those years I've fluctuated between strong beliefs in minimal government (protection of individual rights, specifically from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud) and panarchism (as honestly, I still can't fathom the moral justification for non-voluntary taxes). Economically, I'm a laissez-faire capitalist and reject all notions of "equality" that deal with outcomes instead of rights - equal protection under the law, yes, equal access to education/health care/sports cars, no.
I also happen to be a giant space nerd and think 50 years of government intervention in this area of the economy demonstrates exactly how horrible government intervention can be. Many people today see human spaceflight as uneconomical and capable of providing only intangible benefits, if any at all. As such, they scoff at the notion of commercial human spaceflight. I say, they have cause and effect mixed up. Yes, human spaceflight is those things, but it's because governments do it that it is such. Had space (both human and robotic/communications) developed under market forces, or if the government of today would just get out of the way for long enough, the way we think about human spaceflight would be entirely different.. I could go on.
