State Senator Elbert Guillory is changing his party affiliation. The Opelousas Democrat says he will switch to the Republican Party at noon today in Baton Rouge.
"The Democratic Party has left us behind and moved away from traditional American values and the values of most of Louisiana," Guillory told KATC. "On abortion, Second Amendment rights, family issues, spending, and on a number of other issues crucial to our lives, they've left us behind."
"In order for the people of my district to have a voice and a seat at the table where decisions are made, I'm making the switch."
Guillory was a previously a Republican and served a term on the Republican State Central Committee. He moved to the Democratic party prior to his election to the State House District 40 seat in 2007.
