I was just going to post the lyrics but I'm in a jolly mood this AM so here's the full boat...

"Outlaw Man"

I am an outlaw, I was born an outlaw's son
The highway is my legacy
On the highway I will run
In one hand I've a Bible
In the other I've got a gun
Well, don' you know me
I'm the man who won
Woman don't try to love me
Don't try to understand
A life upon the road is the life of an outlaw man

First left my woman, it was down in Santa Fe
Headed for Oklahoma, I was ridin' night and day
All of my friends are strangers,
They quickly come and go

And all my love's in danger,
'Cause I steal hearts and souls
Woman, don't try to love me
Don't try to understand A life upon the road is the life of an outlaw man
oo....

Woman, don't try to love me
Don't try to understand
A life upon the road is the life of an outlaw man

Some me call me Abel,
Some men call me Cain,
Some men call me sinner, Lord
Some men call me saint

Some say there's a Jesus
Some men say there ain't
When you got no life to lose
Then there's nothin' left to gain
Outlaw man
Outlaw man

Outlaw Man * The Eagles; with banjo introduction.

And all that is by way of saying that I've never before felt so disenfranchised - and I can't tell you how invigorating it is! They can all go straight to hell.

I am an Outlaw!

I know a lot of newer cars with onboard navigation will even chime an alarm if you exceed the posted speed limit where you're at.  Are we to seriously believe the system isn't easily capable of recording a log of this, for later retrieval by who knows what agency?

Is it going to be like the movie Demolition Man, where you get fined for using profanity, because no matter where you are there's a listening device capable of determining your identity?

I suppose that this is one of the reasons why I am going to great lengths to keep my existing vehicles in good condition. That plus I'm too cheap to buy a new car these days.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

All mini steps towards getting us out of our personal private cars.

Sucks that the automakers are so in bed with the government that they sow the seeds of their own destruction.

You would think that somewhere in the population would be people like us in this industry who would band together and make alternative vehicles for like-minded folks and tell the government and the rest of the stooges where to go...

Jeesh, when did I get to be so optimistic?

It's a Ford.  It won't work anyway so don't worry.  MyFord Touch is notoriously crappy.

I don't like automatic anything when it comes to control, anything that reduces my control over something and puts into the hands of frickifIknowwho is a really really bad idea in my book, and I am not having anything to do with it!!!

Screw that noise!!!   ::mooning::

Like anything else....If it's on your car...it can most likely be disabled. My brother just sold his Ford truck and bought a Toyota Tundra. He did it out of protest of sorts ( we have a lot of Fords in our families) as Ford is taking their truck, removing 700 lbs from it by going to an aluminum frame ( We don't like hauling a boat that weighs more than the pull vehicle) and inserting a 2.7 liter engine and selling it as a truck. That's not a truck, at least not to me......The only people who will buy a 2.7 liter truck will most likely be wearing skinny jeans, birkensocks and hair hilites.

Jeeps are rugged....this new Ford is a girlie man truck. No self respecting skinny jeans guy would be caught in a Jeep.

For some folks, I see this as a plus. It really seems the smarter cars get, the dumber the drivers get. Remember the idiot who killed his family while talking to 911 when his Toyota gas peddle stuck? How phuckin hard is it TO TURN THE KEY OFF????

Up here there's a good chance a hairy-legged dyke will step out of a Jeep...

I don't think the same guy...IIRC one such incident with a Toyota involved a Minnie guy...Hmong or something...claimed faulty accelerator...turns out the evidence showed he thought the brake was the gas peddle...killed some folks...convicted and sent to prison...

Dependance on tech got a woman killed because her husband drove their car off a missing bridge in my neck of the woods.    His GPS guided him to use a bridge that has been out for over five years.    He would have had to drive around at least three sets of barriers to even get to the edge.   They fell about forty feet where the car then blew up when it hit the ground.

Seriously?  I know aluminum alloys can be quite strong, but compared to steel?  I can't see anything with an aluminum frame being used to tow and haul stuff around.  Perhaps even more annoying is the disappearance of frames altogether.  I think even the Toyota 4Runner is built on a unibody now.

I agree with Libertas on having disdain for automatic anything.  I'm sort of in the car market right now, and one of my frustrations is that a lot of the nicer trim levels are only available with automatic transmissions.  I'm too much of a manual transmission purist!

In '01, we were in the market for a truck and settled on my '00 F150 (leftover).  I wanted a manual trans, but there was no Ford model at the time that had that AND power seats; the manual seat range didn't allow me to comfortably access the pedals.  So, I had to settle.  I can do without the power windows as well ..... just another thing to break.

What's ironic is the first thing that broke on my '89 Escort was the solid cable/rod that manually moved the driver's seat.  I used the hell out of that thing because every time I got in and out, I slid the seat forward and back in order to clear the steering wheel.  *That* I fixed myself by crimping it back on the bar underneath the seat and it never gave me another bit of trouble.

Hindsight 20-20 'n all...

I should have hung onto one or two of my older vehicles...

 ::bashing::

New offerings leave me wanting...nobody makes a straight up normal no-frills uncomputerized vehicle you can work on yourself...there isn't even a no-frills midly computerized vehicle option...and now days you cannot do something simple without pulling the entire engine...which means having to bring it in, which means more hassle and more money and maybe having to futz with a rental...

We can't either....Not hauling heavy loads with an aluminum framed vehicle.
