They pull this stuff now and then since the 50's...probably more common in Black Sea, Med, Baltic & North Atlantic but it can happen anywhere...

And i'll bet dollars to doughnuts their Chi-Com dictator mentioned to the Rus-Oligarch dictator a desire to be dicks to American's whenever and wherever possible...just to show you care about your dance partner...

Anyway...I would have been hard pressed not to moon those clowns and/or flash the double-bird!

As I said this stuff has always gone on...but as you allude to the problem is I think some people are not as well trained and disciplined as they used to be...that and in some the people the cinema/video game and real life is blurred and such larping and laxity can lead to poor decision-making...and proximity of dangerous toys only ups the potential for an accident to lead to something much worse.

Someone pointed out that Russian sailors were sunbathing on the foredeck.
They weren't in battle gear or somesuch.
Likely the commander was screwing off playing hot dog. Maybe even sober.

Yeah?

Doesn't diminish the potential for a serious f**kup now does it?

That skipper and XO in our Navy would be removed in swift fashion...any news about the fate of these clowns?

The Rooskie routine used to be a quiet sacking so as to not to show weakness to potential foes...but in Puti's Russia I suspect they'll get a quiet "nice one, but don't press your luck again" message.
