Just now watching this.
What a jackass. Gun Violence is a disease. That is George Lakoff Framing in action. No one argues for a disease, but they argue for gun violence!
And he is correct that the 2nd amendment was in part about Standing armies, and providing defense via militias. And now we have a standing army - which only bolsters the case that a strong Militia to oppose that army ( if necessary) is needed. And then admits that limits on the 2nd amendment are required. Then Fine... get an amendment to impose those restrictions. People of "good faith" would recognize that an amendment would be required to change this. But no - e wants someone on the bench to decide what the restrictions should be - and that isn't a the job of the Supreme court. Tier job is to uphold the law as written.
I was a little sorry that Mr. Rubian didn't him hard on that out of the gate. He even uses the work epidemic, giving in to the Lakoff framing , instead of pointing out the analogy is limited. There are no diseases that can be use in your own defense, and that is what a gun is - a tool. Not a disease. The disease, if there is one, is in the criminals mind, and attempting to limit is tools - while at the same time limiting the tools of those who would oppose a breakout of the 'disease" is not going to help.
But Back to this asshat governor. We already have laws against murder and no they aren't 100% effective as a deterrent. But gun laws are about blaming the tool and depriving ordinary citizens the right to defend themselves against a diseased mind. And then he lies about banning "military assault weapons" - when that isn't what they banned. Military weapons are automatic.
Then this third speaker goes with the epidemic frame again. We also have a Car accident epidemic, a knifing epidemic, a falling epidemic..
And yes, these inner city kids have guns because they live in a culture of diseased minds. And even if guns were illegal everywhere, you could still easily get one as easily as you get drugs which are illegal everywhere. And then she admits that the "people who are problems" - those are the diseased minds.
I liked the responses about Heller.
Yes, everyone who buys a gun should have a background check - so should every one who votes. The two regulations should be the same.
And yes, a gun is the only way to counter another gun. Which is why the police who show up to these event HAVE GUNS. What a douche.
If the answer isn't more guns, then disarm your police force gov. And then back to "common sense" and "epidemic"
Mr. Rubian kinda goes there.. but I would have made it more general. If the answer to a diseased mind with a gun isn't another gun, then why does law enforcement need them?. And then if they do - why only law enforcement - are they the only "good guys" in our society? If your response to a diseased mind with a gun is more men with guns arriving fast as possible, what makes your men superior to another man - a man who may be a vet or have more training than your men, and who is on the scene right now? Your Men didn't prevent the diseased mind form getting a gun. Your men did prevent the other good man from having a gun and protecting those people. And your claim this makes people safer? You think only the government can pick and choose good men? You don't have any bad cops at all? And why should he government be in the business of choosing which men are good enough to have a gun on their person? What makes you tink the government even as the ability to make that decision well?
And then Mr. Late to his own event - want to pretend handguns are somehow MORE dangerous. And now compare the CCW events with the number of NON CCW events. Because you think it makes people safer then proved the stats moron. Large capacity is for when you are fighting a gang of Yutes like the kind you are talking about.
_ Yeah I don't think I can take anymore. These aren't good faith arguments. And they never will be.
