Nice extortion racket these folks have going...target the most vulnerable systems...and demand tribute.  Who says piracy is dead?

But $300?   ::saywhat::

AlanS:
We got an email from our CTO about this after I read it in the news.

Just like anything else, a little common sense goes a looooong way.

Libertas:
Speaking of "common sense"...why does the media refer to what this guy did as an "accident"?

No you daft buggers, he exercised common sense and activated a domain name buried in the code and it successfully shut down the spread of the damn thing!

To be an accidental anything one would have to have no sense whatsoever and do something for reasons opposite of what was needed but lucked out anyway.

I swear, latter day earthlings are fricken DUMB!

AlanS:

--- Quote ---I will confess that I was unaware registering the domain would stop the malware until after i registered it, so initially it was accidental.
--- End quote ---

So it was accidentally on purpose.

Pandora:
Luck is the intersection of education and preparation (that's sort of a paraphrase).

Both Home Depot and Lowes Home Improvement computers systems were sllooooowwww this evening.  Residuals?
