The Russian Empire: color photographs 1909-1912
« on: May 30, 2012, 10:37:10 PM »
Honestly, I didn't realize that color photography was this well developed in 1909. These photos are amazingly good, you will doubt they could possibly be over 100 years ago.  The photographic process they used is actually a precursor technology to true color photography, because it required them to take three shots in rapid succession with a different color filter on each shot.  The shots were then combined in the development process to produce an image very close to true color.  I've seen similar photos taken on the Western Front during WWI, and those are amazing as well.  It sort of makes those eras seem more real, to see them in sharp and colorful detail.

Nice, peaceful, serene...then Lenin & Trotsky had to muck it all up!

I found this one particularly telling:

Can you guess the year?  Is it 2012?  Or 1910?  Could just as well be 1210.  That's how much of a throwback that death cult is.

(it's 1910)

This picture on Wikipedia of Tblisi in 2011 is almost the exact same angle as the 1910 picture.  You can make out some of the same buildings.

Nice comparison.  Should be markers where the Bolsheviks buried the slaughtered though, looks like nothing happened...
