Because everything's a damn acronym now.  Nobody can be bothered saying "Major League Baseball"; it's MLB, NFL, url, FBI, CIA, IRS, IRA, blahblahblah.  Going by the commercials, there's one for low testosterone, too -- "low T".

And I'm already annoyed by "frozen precip".  'Smatter, frozen precipitation is too many syllables when snow has turned into "snow showers"?

Argh.  Curmudgeon, that's me.
