.... It’s no coincidence that the civil right movements came in the wake of WWII. Anti-Semitism still existed of course, but, in America, it became socially unacceptable. It retreated to the bedrooms and parlors, where it was expressed in the way of certain mystery religions, in secret, behind closed doors, so quietly you might think it had vanished.
This is my childhood, the world where I grew up. The horror of the Holocaust purchased us a 70-year vacation from history, though we didn’t know it. We believed the world had changed, as had human nature. Jews remained distinct in the new dispensation, but in a good way—a near-at-hand exotic, a symbol of exile, which we were told was the natural state of modern man. For perhaps the only time in history, you might actually want to be a Jew. Because of the close families and good husbands and yada yada. Saul Bellow, Phillip Roth, Mel Brooks. To those of us who came of age in these years, the future seemed like it would be more of the same, the present carried on forever.
We were wrong.

I only see the author has separated himself from reality. Voted for Obama twice? Holy shyt! How can any Jew justify that? Answer: Jew in name only. Guess this asshole would have elected Adolph Hitler even after reading Mein Kemf.

Judging from the comments at Instapundit it appears my thoughts are not isolated. This guy just announced to the world he is a fool and he cannot be surprised to be lit up for it. And if he goes knee-jerk with charges of anti-Semitism for those who challenge his BS it will be further proof of his Prog-induced insanity, I'd like to see him try to answer his (what I am guessing are "legion" of) critics without resorting to emotionalism or distracting side arguments, but I doubt we will see it. This screed has all the hallmarks of a Prog wailing about the unfairness of the world and brainless moaning about why it cannot be according to their desires. Fool, I tagged him correctly.

Yea, well your parents and grandparents did more than that - they worked their tails off to make it so. And you wasted it - you kicked it into the gutter and ignored it while it circled the drain. You turned your back to the ones (conservatives) who had your best interests at heart in favor of the ones who would (and did) stab you in the back (leftists). You empowered thuggish creeps like Øbozo who don't GAF about you and then sit in your own excrement and wonder why you stink.

I think the Jews have such a long history of being held at the margins of society, with occasional flare ups of mass killings, that something about their whole culture has become almost automatically contrarian.
It's mystifying how they can be such an intelligent group, but have such glaring blind spots for things that are obvious. I think it gets back to the distinction between intelligence and wisdom.

What I believe is not so much contrarian, so much as for much of their history they've been seen as 'the other' that they've taken to relating to and defending those with the taint of 'the other' instead of choosing to align with 'us'.
