It's good to see citizens rise up and demand their representatives tell the TSA Brownshirts to eff off! WTF are they to issue threats to a soverign state?!
Fricken Nazi's!
For me they don't have to cancel any flights, I'm still boycotting air travel entirely! And as if I didn't need another reason, TSA thugs pull this sh*t. And now it is revealed that the US-EU deal means data on passengers going to and from are being kept 15 years, no discrimination as to risk factors!

"Those that would trade liberty for security deserve neither"

Following a fiery debate in the Texas House last night, Senate sponsor Dan Patrick (R-Houston) pulled the bill, remarking that TSA representatives had been “lobbying” the Texas Senate in an effort to mothball the legislation.
“I will pull HB 1937 down, but I will stand for Liberty in the state of Texas,” Patrick said.
Sounds contradictory.
Patrick added that TSA officials had warned him passing the bill “could close down all the airports in Texas,” which he regarded as a ‘heavy handed threat’ by the federal government.
Danny, what an astute observation and the fold of your omelet is gorgeous.
so much for Texas, guess they're not ready to call
-
This TSA bullsht is metastasizing (http://www.kob.com/article/stories/S2122102.shtml?cat=504), it's being done in the name of "security", and Dan Patrick needs a lesson on lip-service.

I think that part of it is that the federal goverment is punishing Texas.
first, we had the epa taking over the water quality from texas
then, they refused to locate one of the shuttles in nasa clear lake texas
then, they basically skuttled and stole everything of any value from nasa in houston
then, along with other states, shut down gulf oil drilling
then, they decided a sand lizard is on the extinction list and will shut down drilling in west texas
then, the tsa pulls this crap
Not punishing Texas, they are at war with Texas!!
-
And they denied sending assistance to help with their wildfires, but did send that assistance to a much a smaller blaze....in Mexico. And they sent it from an Air Force base in Texas, an hour's flight time from the wildfires in Texas.
-
And they (EPA) are attempting to shut down coal fired energy plants and refineries by lawsuit.

In other words, he caved.
This was a golden opportunity for a state to tell the Feds to go f*ck themselves. And we need to be seeing a lot of that now.

Aaannnd, sure enough, Karl Denninger spotted this too.
Texas: Latest Ball-Less State Legislature (http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=186906)
As they say in Texas: All hat, no cattle.
The States used to consider this sort of thing a direct challenge to State Sovereignty and something to take up under the 10th and 14th Amendments - or worse. Not any more, despite the bullcrap and bluster out of Governor Perry not all that long ago.
Texas is no longer an independent State in a Federalist system. It has sold out to an imperial Feral Government.
Are there any actual STATES left or has that founding document called The Constitution become entirely inconsequential?
You decide.
As for me? I'm canceling my plans to buy land in Texas. And yes, I was seriously going to do so, and in fact intended to spend some time there this summer hunting for exactly that.
Not any more; the Texas Legislature has just EXPLICITLY ENDORSED the TSA's rape-scans and genital gropes.
My money is staying out of Texas.

Indeed, it is a war, and thusfar Texas is chosing not to fight.
I never thought I would live to see the day where Texans take this kind of sh*t lying down!
::falldownshocked::

Yeah, I don't know if Dan Patrick was being a wimp, or if he knows that there is no way to legally stand up to the feds in that type of showdown. I just don't know the details of what Texas could actually do or not do. ::confused::
-
He is said to have thought he didn't have the votes, pretty much equates to surrendering in my book. We'll never know the true effect of fairly determining what can or cannot be done legally unless the damn bill is passed! They surrendered the Alamo without a shot.
-
If the bill was passed, and the TSA shut down all ingress and egress to Texas,
what then could Dan Patrick do? What could the state of Texas do?
I don't know, because I don't have any knowledge in those type of scenarios.
I would think that we already have laws on the books for sexual molestation, etc., so I don't know why we just don't arrest the individual agents anyway, and see what happens in court.

Texas protestors (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/politics/entries/2011/05/25/protestors_try_to_storm_senate.html)
The group then marched to the Senate side of the Capitol and tried to enter the third-floor public gallery. Troopers with arms folded blocked them from entry.
They stood outside for several minutes, chanting: “Co-wards, co-wards,” Trea-son, trea-son,” and shouted slogans accusing senators and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst of being “federal pimps” and “scallawag trash.”

If the bill was passed, and the TSA shut down all ingress and egress to Texas...What could the state of Texas do?
Tell the TSA, the airlines, and their customers, that flights are going on as scheduled. Make a public declaration that the Texas legislature has passed a law that the TSA has no jurisdiction in Texas. Then put the planes in the air en route to their destinations. Be steadfast and unwavering, then stand back and watch what happens.
-
If the airlines went along with that plan, the FAA could shut down the airlines, and put their CEO's in jail. I don't think that the airlines would be willing to go against the FAA.
-
So tell me again why we're at this crosroads.........oh, yes, our politicians are in fact cowards.
Are we there yet or do we need just another example of Federalis ripping up the constitution. Btw, how hot is that water, Frog?
-
The Federals threatened to blockade Texas. Texas is not in the shape many other states are because it is a safe haven for business. If it caused the blockade to commence business would have ceased. The consideration was, 'are we ready for that?'.
-
They should be ready for that, otherwise you might just come out and announce the concept of Federalism has been finally destroyed entirely by Tyrant Obama and that distinctions such as states and separation of powers is rendered impotent...we are all bitches for the Federal government to do to us as they will. We are slaves. We have no rights and no privileges, except those granted by Tyrant Obama.
So we have come to the conclusion that resistance is futile?

what then could Dan Patrick do? What could the state of Texas do?
The state of Texas stands firm. Commerce in the US would be affected within 24-48 hours of a shutdown of the airlines in TX. Many, many flights connect thru texas besides originating there. That would force many Americans into voicing an opinion.

Voicing an opinion and taking a position, a side. This might could have been the issue to force the issue, one way or the other, on who were are as a country.

Maybe they would be willing to go against the FAA if they had the power of a resolute state and its laws backing them up. I don't think the FAA has the power to arbitrarily put an airline CEO in jail for acting in accordance with a state law that conflicts with a federal regulation that has not been adjudicated to a final resulting decision. Texas, Texas airports, and the airlines that serve Texas would be acting in accordance with specific Texas law in defiance of a federal regulatory body - not even federal law, but federal bureaucratic regulation. It is exactly the kind of resistance the country needs to place the malfeasance and overreach of the federal government and its tentacles on trial.

Dan Patrick was just on the Mark Davis show on WBAP here in Dallas.
He was asked "What killed the TSA Bill?" He answered, "David Dewhurst." Patrick had the votes but Dewhurst wanted to wait until he received a letter from the TSA. After the threat from the TSA, Dewhurst caved and would not support Patrick
David Dewhurst is the Lt. Governor of Texas, who runs the legislature. He actually has more power than the governor. If he doesn't support a bill, it doesn't get passed. Pure and Simple.
David Dewhurst is the one to wimp out and surrender the Alamo without a shot being fired!!

Dan Patrick evidently spake truth about Dewhurst -- he's a PROBLEM; this is more information from Ed Mahmoud @ Grouchy's:

It takes courage for a state senator to speak out against his LT governor. It probably means dan will not be able to get any of his bills on the table.

From the looks of it, he won more than he gained. Probably wasn't going to get serious consideration, or any, for anything he put forth. At least this way, folks know at whom to point the .... finger.
