Title: Memorial Day Tribute
Post by: Libertas on May 28, 2011, 10:12:35 AM
I am blasting out of town and will not be back till Tuesday so I wanted to give a shout out to all who have served, all who have given their all, past present and future.  Without whom none would have any life, liberty or happiness!

Nicely done Libertas!

I happened across an opportunity through a friend in a car club. They had volunteered to help spruce up an old cemetery and I tagged along. I spent the day scrubbing tombstones and was blown away by my discovery.

Washington state is a long way from the battlefields of the American Civil War but we do have a local cemetery with the internment of hundreds of war veterans, including four Medal of Honor recipients.

Wow, that's quite a find, Alphabet Soup.  I assume they moved to Washington after the war to start a new life in the west, as many did?

By the way, burial is "interment".  "Internment" means imprisonment.

Thanks, Mr. Infinito.
At the risk of tootin' my own horn, my favorite day is Memorial Day and I get incredibly choked up when I march past my kids during our town's parade. Pride, sadness, even anger all come together.
But I'll never not march again. Even if I gotta' crawl.

It seems that , according to TCM's program director , any old war film will do to celebrate Memorial Day . It doesn't matter if it doesn't involve the U.S. Military ! Ignorant turds !

My favorite day. Frankly, I don't like the term "holiday" to describe Memorial day. A day of thankfulness, reflection, rejoice, reverence.

It is not just a day off work. It is a day set aside to be very thankful for the tremendous work EVERY DAY of our brave men and women. ::USA::

To those whose blank check to the American people was cashed, God Bless.

In memory of SSG Juan M Solorio and CPT Michael Mackinnon.

Hey 'Soup, I hear stories like yours from time to time.  Many a cemetery in rural areas and the old forgotten ones swallowed by larger cities have people discovering the tombstones of those who fell or served in the Civil War or the Spanish-American War.  Volunteering like that is a nice contribution and learning even a little bit about those who have served is a good reminder of who and what we are.
 ::thumbsup::

And Dan, keep marchin'!

 ::thumbsup::

Good posts all!
