Title: Postmodernism . . . run amok
Post by: Pablo de Fleurs on June 03, 2021, 10:04:38 PM
We may need a new forum category for 'Postmodern News'

Italian Artist Salvatore Garau Has Just Sold an Invisible Sculpture for $18,000 USD (https://hypebeast.com/2021/6/salvatore-garau-lo-sono-invisible-sculpture-18k-usd-sale)

5' x 5'
(OH! I see it now!)

The Io Sono (I am) sculpture, as the artist explains, exists but just not in material form,
and is actually more like a “vacuum.”

More like a "vacuum"? Meaning "It sucks"?

Funny...I just read that here...

per Garau's instructions, the sculpture must be displayed in a private home free from any obstruction, in an area that is about 5 ft. long by 5 ft. wide. Because the piece does not exist, there are no special lighting or climate requirements.

And...umm, in a severe indictment of 21st century evidence of intelligence...it never dawned on the idiot buyer they could have simply saved their money for something tangible and invented their own invisible whofrackingcares themselves?

The area of display should be roped off -- anyone accidentally bumps into it, it'll shatter into a million non-existent pieces.

Better wear a N100 mask too and protective eye wear in order not to be exposed to harmful non-existent toxic particles...

Better yet, no viewing without full Fauci-endorsed bio-hazard suit...

Walter Truett Anderson humorously gives us an insight into our postmodern culture in his book, “Reality Isn’t What It Used to Be,” comparing our predicament by presenting an analogy from baseball.

A pre-modern baseball umpire would have said something like this, “There’s balls, and there’s strikes and I call ‘em as they are.”

The modernist one would have said, “There’s balls and there’s strikes, and I call ‘em as I see ‘em.”

And the postmodernist umpire would say, “They ain’t nothing until I call ‘em.”

In brief, all reality is subject dependent and the postmodernist frames reality by naming aspects at his or her whim.
