Title: Prayer request
Post by: LadyVirginia on July 01, 2011, 12:58:33 PM
My daughter's going over to the hospital tomorrow for some tests.

A week and half ago she went by ambulance to the ER -- she was dizzy, sick to her stomach and in pain all over but no fever.  They didn't find anything and sent her home.  She lives 4 hours away but I couldn't get there for a couple of days--fortunately, she had a friend who stayed with her.  I brought her home and she went to the doctor.  She was miserable but I drove her back so she could work.  She ended up leaving work early and driving home here.  So anyway the doc's ordered this test.  She's barely eaten or slept.  I really hope there's a simple solution.

May God hold her and heal her, and calm all your fears... In Jesus' mighty and matchless name.

Thanks everyone for the prayers and good thoughts.  Finally, today we heard.  Turns out it's her gallbladder.  So surgery will be in 2 or 3 weeks looks like.  She's kinda young for this sort of trouble but she lost 40-50 pounds a couple years ago and I hear this can cause gallbladder troubles.

The upside is she'll feel better soon.  Downside is she has to quit her summer job (fulltime no less!) she had to pay her rent.  So dad and I will have to pay it until she gets back to school and her school year job. Downside is the lovely, high deductible we'll pay but the upside is all the rest of the family can incur med bills and prescriptions the rest of the year and we won't have to pay much or anything.

By having planned surgery, hopefully that means she's having the laparoscopic procedure. It's so much better to have it done that way, before something like a rupture occurs. In those cases they have to do conventional surgery which entails a more significant recovery time. I've had two relatives have the laparoscopic surgery and it was done on an outpatient basis.

Good/bad.

Heartening to know it's nothing more serious.  And God Bless the girl's willpower for losing 40 pounds.

The upside will be a complete return to health, God willing. Best of luck to her.

Thanks all!

She's doing fine.  She's sore and tired but on the mend.

And because nothing is ever easy...or maybe we're just not sheeple...:

I stayed in her room for her one night stay.  When the nurse told her I had to leave for the night (this at 11:15 pm)my daughter lost it (as in crying uncontrollably because she's full of drugs) and the nurse said it was the hospital rule.  My daughter announced (as in yelling and pointing at me) my mother is not leaving !  (hmmm...her mother's daughter all right...she knew she was vulnerable and needed an advocate)...the nurse said ok but I'll have to notify someone.  My daughter told me later-- I didn't care who the heck she had to notify you weren't leaving. My daughter's usually pretty quiet and easy going and avoids conflict if she can.

Glad she is doing well. My two relatives who had gall bladder surgery recovered from it just fine, probably the biggest thing she'll need to watch out for is that for a while afterward she will want to avoid too much fat in her diet. Apparently the gall bladder plays a big role in breaking down fats and it takes the body a while to adjust after surgery.

I was aware of that and told her.  Weird thing on discharge they told her she had no dietary restrictions. .. ok maybe she doesn't need any but a warning would have been appropriate.

Damn straight!

Good to hear she's on the mend.

I was fit to be tied when I realized my Father and my brother left my Mother in the hospital alone once she was brought back to her room after major surgery a couple years ago.
