Title: Conservatism on the rise?
Post by: IronDioPriest on August 01, 2011, 01:01:40 PM
It's always encouraging when these Gallup polls come out showing the low percentage of people who self-identify as liberal, and the relatively high percentage who self-identify as conservative.

But I think the self-identification polling is faulty, because it doesn't matter what people think they are - it matters what they are. If these numbers reflected reality, there would never be another liberal Democrat elected to public office outside Berkeley. I suspect that many or most of the people self-identifying as "moderate" are actually liberals who want to separate themselves from the negative perception of liberalism. I suspect that some of the self-identified "conservatives" are actually liberal. I suspect that many of those polled don't have any idea what the hell they are. And I suspect that many people who self-identify as "moderate" believe that the Democrat party is moderate.

Still, here ya have it @ gatewaypundit: 41% conservative, 36% moderate, 21% liberal...

I do believe you have nailed it.  Many people do not know where they stand, and many people lie - they say whatever sounds good.

And that's why I never believed Bambi's high approval numbers, people are just starting to talk instead of holding back and we can all see the numbers only lately.

Control the media control the polls, comrade.
It is a tactic to allow the adversary a brief moment of false hope,
the better to bring dissolution.

Push-polling, unbalanced sampling and statistical manipulation...mere tools for the MFM to spin and distort.

Having said that, sometimes even all the dirty tricks find a hard time hiding the truth.  But it has the frequency of a blind squirrel finding a nut...
