State Says Berlin Psychiatrist Fed Patients' Drug Abuse
State regulators have accused Berlin psychiatrist Gerson Sternstein with grossly overprescribing narcotics to drug-addicted patients at his office, a pattern that they say fed the patients' drug abuse and led in some cases to criminal behavior — the reselling of drugs on the street.
Two patients under Sternstein's care died of drug overdoses. In wrongful-death lawsuits that are separate from the state action, the families of the two dead patients contend that Sternstein was essentially a drug dealer peddling narcotics to drug addicts without attempting to address the patients' underlying problems. One of the lawsuits charges Sternstein with prescribing nearly four times the uppermost range of the recommended daily dose of OxyContin.

And as parents you think you're getting help. My daughter picked up on him a while back and raised all kinds of hell till he got another doctor. She hated him with a passion, something about him rubbed her the wrong way the day she met him in his office.

You would think at some point it would raise suspicion that a psychiatrist was prescribing something like Oxycontin. That's usually something a surgeon or oncologist would be prescribing.

Sometimes a mother's intuition is strong.

Not mother in this case His sister my daughter,we were not allowed near his doctor he would have no part of it. He only trusted his sister so we went with that.It took years for him to sign papers so she could even talk to the quack. Now she's his guardian and were keeping it that way.
He's in a good place he's here with us and the new Doctor has him on a fraction of the meds he was on and only need to see him every 90 days.
