Heh, get load of this...
His defense is apparently trying a different tactic, claiming that Manning never should have been given access to the material in the first place.
His defence lawyer, David Coombs, highlighted emails his client had sent to a superior officer explaining that confusion about his gender identity was impacting on his ability to do his job.
Investigators admitted they had found evidence that Pte Manning had created an online alter ego called “Breanna Manning”.
The soldier had also reportedly assaulted a superior, turned over a table, damaged a computer and on another occasion was found “curled up in a ball”…
The defence says Pte Manning was suffering from stress, as a homosexual soldier at a time when soldiers in the US military could not be open about their sexuality – under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, which has since been repealed by US President Barack Obama.
His defence team is also expected to argue that little harm came of the leaks, and that their release was in the greater public interest.http://hotair.com/archives/2011/12/18/bradley-manning-has-gender-issues/comment-page-2/#comment-5196076 (http://hotair.com/archives/2011/12/18/bradley-manning-has-gender-issues/comment-page-2/#comment-5196076)

Found curled up in a ball? Did he seriously think ENLISTING for a stint in the military was going to be a poofter piece of cake?
A portent of things to come now that DADT has been nullified. Let the freak-flags fly.

Interesting defense: It's the government's fault Breanna stolt that data.
Really, this is an attempt to mitigate, not excuse his conduct, which is punishable by death.

Agreed BAS, all an attempt to curry some sort of sympathy and not face the executioner.
It's BS, convict and execute!

Just make sure he's led to the gallows in proper fashioned apparel and he/she'll be fine. ::thumbsup::

I never bought the hardcore PaulBot claims that this jackass was just as noble as Eric Snowden...Snowden never released any information that could get anybody killed...Manning didn't have that much discrimination, he just threw wholesale info to WikiLeaks and didn't care if it hurt people in the field or not. Big difference.
Anyway, the little twerp got 35 years, could be free in 10 but I doubt it. He'll spend at least 25-30 years...if he lives...little twerp might croak by then...

Usually these types get shipped to Leavenworth, Kansas...hope he likes bustin' rocks! (They still do that, don't they?)

The Army should give Manning the sex-change operation he wants ... with a dull bayonet .

Meanwhile media outlets are having overwrought conversations amongst themselves about whether they will be referring to him as Bradley or Chelsea.

And other media outlets have skipped the overwrought conversations and just gone right to accepting Chelsea for who she is, and damn anyone who insists she's Bradley just because she has a penis, testicles, and a complete absence of female genitalia. I'm going to make an assumption that military sentences are Federal sentences (please correct me if I'm wrong). For Federal sentences, most sentences are not shortened for parole, and if one is paroled, it is usually after 90% of the sentence is served. In De-manning's case, that would work out to be about 31 and a half years. He'll be well into his 60s before he gets out, unless Oblowme pardons him in the name of a national discourse on transgenderism (which you know they want).
