Title: The intimidation of the IRS
Post by: Predator Don on January 31, 2012, 08:18:17 AM
Thought I would post an excerpt of a correspondence I received from the fine people at the IRS.

Scenario: in 2008, I sold some stock and apparently did not turn in the sale or send in paperwork of the purchases. (why it happened is another story). This stuff is always reported, so the IRS was on top of things and immediately sent me a letter on the matter 1 month ago, along with a bill, which had grew to 14k because of how they compute interest.

So, my CPA sent them updated tax forms, including both the sell and purchase.. My tax liability was 1100.00, so I sent the check too. Case closed. I didn't owe such a figure.

This is the excerpt:

Thank you for your correspondence received dec 28, 2011.

WE WILL CONTACT YOU AGAIN WITHIN 60 DAYS TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT ACTION WE ARE TAKING. If you owe any additional tax, you should consider paying it now, because the law requires us to charge interest on unpaid tax from the due date of the return to the date you pay the tax in full.

So I filed the amended return, send in the money and this is the type of intimidating response I receive. At least I found it to be used as intimidation. You'd think mistake corrected, all are happy. The IRS and govt in general have grown to the point they show no fear or respect to the people.

I had a similar experience this last year. For reasons known only to the USPS about a half a dozen W2 forms didn't make it to the IRS. The employees got their copies but the IRS did not. The tax year in question wasn't 2010 (last year's taxes) but the year before. They waited until the end of this last year to inform me that these forms had not been received. How the heck was I supposed to know that forms that I had sent off to them hadn't been received? So...how did they cordially let me know about this situation? With a notice that said I owed them something like $13 grand (as a non-filing penalty) and that if they didn't receive payment in ten days they would begin to seize my assets. Fortunately I have a good CPA who immediately jumped on it and got the seizure stuff stopped in its tracks but I am still waiting to find out what my adjusted penalty will be...he thinks it might be "just" a grand.

I hate those bastards.

I love how everytime the IRS screws up business pays the price, those people are incompetent, but then again they have government jobs so I repeat myself.  I want that agency eliminated in the worst way, they are a malignant tumor!

All correspondence with any government should be done by Certified Receipt.
It eliminates many problems.  This method also improves performance of banks
and other controlling entities.

It's all a scam anyway with most of the morons that work at the IRS cannot even decipher their own codes. Read the codes before getting into a spat. Request clarifications on everything and make sure they're in fact translating the code and all it's correlations.

After watching these guys bat the cronies at the IRS around a bit and it's hilarious, you get the feeling just how stupid the people that work there are.

Shakespeare famously said: "The First Thing We Do, Let's Kill All the Lawyers"

Personally I'm gonna start with the IRS, followed by CPS, then the BATFE, then...*
