”My resignation was the culmination of discussions within the organization that have gone on for the past several months on the direction of the magazine, the editorial policy and content, and whether new editorial staff should be added. It has been my position that in a market difficult for print media, and in the Spectator's situation of declining circulation and readership, that to survive the Spectator needed to make a number of strategic changes to its operations.

"I also believed that with the changes I was advocating, the Spectator had the opportunity to fill a void in American right-of-center political journalism, could have a greater impact on the philosophical and political scene, while increasing circulation, revenue and the institution's ultimate financial stability.

“The editorial leadership and the board disagreed, preferring instead to continue with the present editorial staff and policies.

Those must have been interesting board meetings.
Regnery wants to go to the right and Tyrell doesn't.
Has Tyrell been hanging out with Coulter?

Has he?  Maybe so.

If so, AS will find itself yanked rapidly left.  Any organization not steadfastly Right, will find itself drifting Leftward.

Shame.

Apparently being conservative is HARD. Who knew? Y'all make it seem so easy...

Read the Spectator in the early ninety's it was oxygen.
There was the Spectator, National Review, Rush, and
John McLaughlin and Louis Rukeyser on Friday night PBS.
THAT WAS IT.  As goes the Review so goes Spectator

We have each other, and in isolation.  Out in the world, it's a tougher proposition because the "progressive" meme rules and abounds.  Open your mouth, stand, and at possible risk is your job, your property, your reputation and your "standing in the community"... and that of your family as well.  All of this, you know.

When "they" say "the politics is personal", they ain't kiddin'.

Gunsmith's business and full-time job is protected by my determined anonymity on the local forum and in political discussions.  If my identity was revealed, they'd take it out on him.

This is true, I know, Pan.  I was being a bit silly.  My husband has had to keep his mouth shut on various occasions at a few of his jobs (like the diversity training where they learn to accept everyone's diiiifferences--Code for GAY PEOPLE.  What good would it do to complain about going? )
