Try again... it's live footage of a Bald Eagle Eyrie - with lil' chicklets too.

It says "First hatch is imminent. It could occur anytime today."  I assume that means it hasn't happened yet, or else the site hasn't been updated.

Right now I just see the mother in the nest; no eggs or chicks.

Due date was today. But if you have kids you know what that means. Hurry Up and Wait!  ::beertoast::

I've seen the current occupant of the nest (the mother, I think, based on the description on the site--it was apparently the father who was there before "shift change") uncover the eggs twice, and I didn't see the hole I thought I saw earlier.  Maybe it was just a piece of dirt.

It looks like the camera may have changed to night vision mode.  It looks black & white now.

I went back to the EagleCam and now it says "First hatch 4/2/11.  Second hatch imminent."

So the hole I glimpsed last evening was real, and the egg must have hatched during the night.  I haven't seen the chick yet.

The parent (I'm not sure which one this is) just got up and I saw the chick.  Just a little gray ball of fluff, as the camera is still in night-vision mode.

Edit:  It just switched to daylight mode.

A few minutes ago there was another shift change and I got a clear view of the chick.  Unfortunately I forgot how to take a screen shot and missed the opportunity.

Then a couple of minutes later, the parent stood up.  This time I was ready.

(There's two eggs and an empty eggshell there.)

I'm just wondering how long they will let that rabbit on side of the nest to age before eating it.

I didn't even notice that.  Is it the gray thing off to the left?  I'll bet they're saving it for the chicks.

Here are a couple more screenshots.  I missed a couple of great shots, with the chick's head visible.  I'm not a good photographer.

Edit:  This beats the hell out of network TV.

I minimized the screen so I can watch and read at the same time. This is too cool.

My kids have been watching this and it's funny to see the excitement build when the birds stand or move, then they take about 10 seconds to get bored again, then the bird moves and the excitement ramps up...
I don't know which is cooler, seeing the Eagles do their thing or watching my kids do theirs!

The live video feed is down for the time being, but here is a highlights video of the first hatching.  I saw the chick at 6:10 am, with the camera switching back and forth from night to daylight mode.

The other eagle arrived at the nest and then went to a nearby branch.  The camera panned over to it.

Yes, I'm still watching this.

The second chick has hatched, but I keep missing getting a screenshot.

Here is the parent tearing off chunks of the rabbit carcass, and feeding the chicks.  The first one is already twice the size of the second one!

There's a guy in Minnesota, a fellow bannee from a certain gas price web site  ;), that does this for loons.  Several TV stations have covered it.

More like the outdoors shows.  Just google Minnesota loon cam and you'll find it.

Then tell yourself, he was banned for using the term "loony liberal."   ::hysterical::  The kind of term that gets you banned, at so-called neutral web sites.

Here they all are, in a screenshot I took a minute ago.  The one in the middle seems to be doing most of the eating.  I'm guessing the one on the right is the youngest, since it's less active.

I think the one in front likes me.

What was I doing?  Oh yes, eagles.  The parent just left the nest for a moment (bathroom break?) and I got a screenshot of the three by themselves.  They all watched the adult fly away, and one of them seemed to try flapping its little wings.

OMG.  I have no idea what the parent is doing, but it looks gnarly.  He/She seems to be cleaning the nest and spraying dust on the eaglets.  I shudder to think what that is.

I was on my way back home from Buffalo yesterday and a bald eagle flew directly over my car.

I saw him weaving back and forth high above the road as we approached, and the closer we got, the lower he came. As we got close, it looked like he was flying down directly to meet our vehicle, almost like a dive-bomb. By the time we got to him, he swooped down right at the side of he truck, and then almost straight up and away. If I'd had my window open and arms about 8 feet long, I coulda touched him. It was severely cool.
