WASHINGTON — Nearly $300 million in aid for Detroit — from federal and state coffers, private businesses and charitable foundations — will be announced Friday as Obama administration officials visit the city to discuss what can be done to help eradicate blight, improve transportation, encourage new business and make residents safer.

I got some ideas and it won't cost $300 in aid.

Does it involve lots of bulldozers and backhoes? ;)

Unless they plan to bulldoze, it's gonna take more than $300,000,000. A LOT more... (http://www.weather.com/travel/modern-ruins-abandoned-detroit-photos-20130715)

this is a prime topic for a savvy conservative documentarian. by using old news files and public documents such as city, county and state meeting minutes, union contract negotiating minutes etc, a full-fledged time-table could be created that shows how the city came to the state it is in and you would get to highlight MANY incidents of leftist democratic strategies that were good for the party and its members but which led to the sorry state we see now.
imagine the faces, facts and pictures that could be presented as an indictment of the progressive agenda. it would have to be done in an entertaining way but it could become a showpiece for any 2016 candidate that wants to warn the country of just what progressive government will produce and there could be many additions as cities, counties and other nations achieve the same state of affairs by then

Maybe Michael Moore will tackle it?

am I being too optimistic again????
I sure enjoyed picturing the images in the documentary, picking all those senators and representatives who ok'd the funding programs and seeing what they actually paid for.
maybe breaking it up into a daily snippet on a conservative tv program sort of like stewart's program does oh wait... there are no daily conservative programs, bummer, where are the moneyed conservatives when you need them, someone could have picked up current tv for a song instead of letting it go to al Jazeera (maybe they would air the snippits)

I guess $300 million is just chump change because it IS going down a rathole. They could throw $300 billion at it and it would still go down a rathole. $300 million won't even cover the pension payments for very long. Whatever pension payments doesn't swallow will go to graft and corruption.
Idiots.

Don't forget to put Coleman Young at the forefront. He's the one that started a lot of the crap there.

My solution will only cost $10 for the round and a sniper that's a great shot. ::praying::

How much does a "daisy cutter" cost? Granted, they'd need more than one, but I think they could still do it for less than $300m.

Of course, all that money won't be doing any good. More than likely it's just a way for the politicians to line their pockets a little longer before they have to get out of town.
They need to bulldoze it all then have a homestead day like they had in the old west--make your claim and work it to keep it. Or sell it off to a bunch of capitalists.
But a bulldozer should be a part of any plan.

I agree. However the residents have to want the city to flourish for their own sakes and livelihoods.if they are not willing to work for it, why should the rest of us ,have to make sure they do?

I'm all for digging a really big and deep trench and just pushing the ruins into it and seal it shut and call it good.

^^^This.
Barry is doing nothing but feeding the Democrats who are still gorging at the trough. Detroit is a 3rd world hellhole (I was born in the city and grew up in the 'burbs and I know from personal experience that the blight started under Democrat civic and county leadership beginning with Jerome Cavanaugh in the early Sixties and continuing through to today, though Dave Bing was a helluva lot handier with a basketball than he is running a city) and it will not come back as long as people have the mistaken notion that pouring money into a black hole will actually yield a result.
Nope. Best thing is to bulldoze and let the rats take over. The rats have a better plan, because they don't depend on graft and greed to get their next meal.
