OK, a shooting in Toys R Us? Seriously? People are effed up!

The extent of my Black Friday shopping was Costco and Cub Foods. Told mom there wasn't a chance in hell I was hitting WalMart, then. ;D

I want to know when it became obligatory to refer to the day after Thanksgiving as "Black Friday" in the first place. I think the first time I ever heard it was about 10 years ago. I've always known it's a big shopping day, but I grow beyond weary of this apparent need to come up with cutesy names for everything.

I'm not sure when, but it's name means the stores are supposed to be in the black that day and not in the red.
