R.I.P You were a very funny man and will be missed.

Sad. Very sad. Whoever imagines this kind of end for himself at 25, 30 when he is so young and energetic?
And the network interrupted Jeopardy to make the announcement. I'm not sure what to think about that. Well, I was thinking a bit of WTF people; it's not Israel/Gaza/Iraq/Russia?

Unbelieveable

Na Nu, Na Nu.
So much talent and so funny

This is more about me than Mr. Williams.
I was a fan before I wasn't and then I was again. Like so many others I was enticed by his frenetic outbursts of spontaneous comedy. He was edgy; I was edgy. He was profane; I was profane. He was irreverent; I was irreverent. I loved Good Morning, Vietnam. I didn't connect with Doubtfire or Awakenings and didn't care (at all) for One Hour Photo or Bicentennial Man and I was flat disgusted with Birdcage.
I hated his politics. I hated that he not only took a side that was opposite mine but that he routinely trashed things that I held dear. It made it difficult to hold him in any sort of regard. I mostly didn't and for years wouldn't watch anything with him in it.
Hearing of his death (and especially the circumstances surrounding it) I was immediately reminded of a blurb that I posted to Traps' Movie Review thread:
And now for something completely different...
What Dreams May Come - 1998
Robin Williams
Cuba Gooding Jr.
Annabella Sciorra
Max von Sydow
I wanted to hate this movie. A friend loaned me the DVD not knowing how much I despise Robin Williams. I almost sent it back unopened. But I did read the blurb on the dustcover and it tempted me into watching.
I'm glad it did. It's a story of love and loyalty...and of loss. It's the story of a man who would literally walk through the gates of Hell to save someone. Obviously it isn't a "romp" or the stuff of casual viewing. And the pacing can be excessively slow at times, but I think it's worth the watch. The visuals can at times be stunning - or terrifying. I found myself relating in spite of myself.
Bring your hankie...
So I won't be bringing a hankie Robin, but I am sorry to learn of your passing and doubly sorry to hear that you lost your fight with the demons.
Rest in peace.

What's the story here?
From IDP's link -
"The Marin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Williams’ residence on Monday at 11:55 a.m. reporting the actor had been found unconscious and was not breathing. The paramedics arrived shortly thereafter at 12 p.m. and pronounced him dead at 12:02 p.m. Williams was last seen alive by his wife at 10 p.m. on Sunday."
Umm, who made the 911 call? One of the kids find him? Had to be that or what, a maid? Guess I wouldn't want to be identified or talk about it either...
I'll echo what 'Soup said, immense talent, but his politics were open and revolting to me and I too would pass on anything with him in it. I think I can say I have never paid a dime for anything he was in. The battle with addiction can and should be forgiven, but obviously he was still tormented by something, maybe those close to him missed the signs, perhaps there were too many signs and they were fatigued...
I've never seen the movie you mentioned 'Soup, but maybe I will, someday...
::praying:: for the family.

I remember watching his stand-up specials in the 80s, they were a riot, especially the cocaine fueled early 80s stuff. For some reason one joke that always sticks out is where he imitates a group of San Francisco gays who break into people's homes and redecorate them. "Austrian drapes?"

I remember those, too. Running around like he's had enough caffeine for a week in one setting.

His wife is now reporting that he was in the early stages of Parkinson's.
