Title: "A Man Alone" by Andrew Klavan

Jesse Lee Peterson versus the “black experience” (http://www.city-journal.org/2010/20_1_jesse-lee-peterson.html)

Quote
Like many outspoken conservatives, Peterson is only noticed by the mainstream media when he makes statements that are, I suspect, purposely calibrated to shock and annoy them: “Thank God for slavery” (because it brought blacks out of Africa to America) and “Barack Obama hates white people.”

Like many black conservatives, he is subject to continual name-calling and racial slurs. One man even pulled a gun on him when he recognized him in a restaurant, Peterson says, and others have threatened violence against the radio stations that run his show. But in appearance and behavior, at least, he doesn’t fit the firebrand mold. He’s a slender man of average height with a relaxed, quiet aspect. A cleft palate, not repaired until he was in his teens, left him with a slight speech impediment, and he has developed a careful manner of speaking, not ferocious at all, not even in the pulpit. He is self-effacing and humorous and notes his own lapses in grammar and eloquence by telling me simply and without apology, “I didn’t get a great education.” He is scrupulously direct and thorough when answering questions, and his worldview is strikingly coherent and precise.

I have great respect for this man.

It is very easy to dismiss him during his few appearances on Fox News programs, for example; he's not a shouter, so the opposition usually bellows right over him, his attire is usually very neat, but not "spiffy" (there has been an improvement from shabby in the last couple times I've seen him), but when he is allowed to speak his piece, he has much to say that ought to be heeded.

Thanks for the alert Pan. I hadn't heard of him before.  I don't watch Fox much so I haven't seen him.

You're welcome, LV.  I haven't seen much of him lately, myself; haven't watched Fox News in a great while either.

I have known of Peterson for many years, now. He is a gutsy man, who is vilified for daring to point out the truth.

Thanks for that article. I read the excerpt and I will now click on it and read the rest.

I enjoy "Klavan On the Culture" on PJTV.

So I went rooting around City Journal and came across the name of one of its contributors, Nicole Gelinas.  I remember her (and I guess I always will) from back in post-9/11 in 2001, when she was a lowly underling at the NYPost during the anthrax attacks, and where she may have been exposed thanks to one of her job duties being to open the mail.  This is the image I always remember of her:

After seeing that front page image splashed at all the newsstands that October morning, I thought her a pretty gutsy lady with that certain 'no surrender' attitude.

ETA:  I had this front page taped on my office door (I worked in Manhattan at the time), but was told to 'take it down'.  A month after the most deadly attack in my City and against this county, and while Ground Zero continued to be a smoking pile of rubble and the search for bodies continued, political correctness still ruled.

Any free-thinking Black that dares run off the Leftist plantation becomes a Negro to them - someone too stupid to understand that a life being satisfied with ones station is what's best for them.

"What's ol' Jesse Lee gonna do now that he run off Pa? How we gon' take care of 'im if he ain't heah?"

"Stupid niggah don't know whaz good fer 'im. He'll see. He'll come runnin' back heah soon 's he figger out he done wrong."

A good piece by Klaven.

Here's a man born to unfortunate and uncertain circumstances, who found himself wanting and fought his personal battle of reclamation. A father who refused to acknowledge him and a mother who abandoned him. Heady stuff. Yet despite all of those challenges he overcame the addictions, the contradictions of life experience, and the dearth of positive role models and became someone who is comfortable in his own skin.

I bet Øbozo wishes he could say the same thing.
