Title: Prince, 57
Post by: Glock32 on April 21, 2016, 12:50:09 PM
The musician Prince has died at age 57.  He was found dead in his home near Minneapolis.  Apparently he had a severe case of flu a few weeks ago, requiring hospitalization.

One does wonder of course if the flu was due to a compromised immune system.  Wouldn't be terribly surprised.  I do remember enjoying "1999" when it came out in the early 80s.

RIP.

He lives just down the highway from me.  That's a shock as he's only 57.  I have a cousin (that doesn't speak to me anymore after reading my facebook page  ::hysterical::  ) that actually went to high school with him.  Another that went to Jr. High with Tommy Stinson  (Replacements, Guns N Roses).

He was a giant, no doubt.

RIP.

Heard this on the radio driving home. Never a big fan, but I recognize he had a lot of talent. People of my sister's generation are more familiar with his work. Clearly influenced a lot of folks and a quiet guy who didn't go out of his way to alienate people like too many "artist's" today do. There us speculation that the flu like symptoms may indicate possible heart issue that is viral related. Like many things the 48/72 your rule may come into play.

Found him in an elevator, so heart attack is sounding likely to me.

Help me out one of you that's been here longer than me.  Is Paisley Park his studio, home, or both?  Did he really live right on Highway 5, for all to see?

57 is too young.

I remember seeing Purple Rain with a girlfriend but not much other interest in him.

RIP

I heard he had a home in Minneapolis, a "home away from home" from Paisley Park.

Some of my instructors when I went back to audio school in the early 2000s were in his "inner circle". From what I understand, the Paisley Park complex had living quarters, but Prince didn't really live there. He stayed there often, and so did lots of other people, but I think he had a home elsewhere.

He was also, from what I hear, a devout Jehovah's Witness, so I wonder if he had refused medical treatments that might have helped him during his illness.

Not my kind of guy but that doesn't mean he should be dead at 57.  RIP

The speculation now is that he may have been on a prescription opiate, which can cause respiratory depression, which is a particularly dangerous effect if someone is also suffering from a respiratory infection like the flu.

They are doing an autopsy, well see what they release.  Being just a hair younger than him, sucks to go out that young.  I hope it isn't drug related, but in that world it is still pretty common, many artist's have demons they've been battling a while.

There's a comment at the Enquirer article that seems quite plausible:

This is BS!

He had chronic pain due to bilateral hip injuries and became dependent of opioids.  Prince had always been strongly anti-drug, so the dependency on drugs was intolerable.  I'll bet he tried cold turkey, since opioid withdrawal presents as flu-like symptoms.   When the pain became to much he had to take his meds, only by this time he'd been re-sensitized and his old dose was now an overdose.  Happens all the time.  Just ask anyone who works in an ED

AIDS is believable too, though usually wealthy celebrities are able to keep the disease more or less in check these days.

The denial here in MN is pathological. This guy is in the process of being deified, and any suggestion that he could possibly have died from a drug overdose is met with indignation and assertion that it's an impossibility.

It's a mix of people being unaware of the nature of addiction, and wanting desperately to believe his inner circle who insist he was clean as a whistle.

I'm not condemning him, or even saying he died of an OD. I'm just saying that to deny the possibility in the face of the evidence is naive. And the naïveté is being driven by public figures and acolytes suggesting that streets and buildings be renamed after him.

I suggest changing the name of the state to Princessota. That way we can deify Prince and throw the trannys and fairies a bone while we're at it.

'Cause the NE is so reputable....I'll wait for the coroners official report.
Wait, they did get that report "Statue of Elvis found on Mars" correct.

Unofficial word from the cops is that they're looking at the painkiller angle.

MN is dumb as rocks and PC to a disgusting fault. What will the RedStar and StPaul Socialist talk about when Rush kicks the bucket? I'll tell you - McNabb/racism and pain pill addiction. For anybody else in the right tribe, it's all good true or not.

Welcome to Moronville.

I hear talk of throat and stomach issues leading up to this, not sure what that signifies?

And talk back on substance abuse...which the media will pretend isn't there...
