Title: Today in History May 27 , 1896
Post by: Sectionhand on May 27, 2011, 04:20:50 AM
On this day in 1896 a tornado swept through St. Louis and East. St. Louis killing 255 people . Sounds like things were just as bad 115 years ago . Many tornadoes also went unreported because they occurred in rural areas . They didn't document those things with the alacrity of today .

What?  No rumors of looting?  I guess there weren't as many parasites back then...lucky them!

Only in East St. Louis .  ;D

Heard a woman from the Natl. Weather Srvice talking about tornado reporting . She said that every report including the ones sent with cell phone footage is counted as "a tornado" . So far 870 have been reported . They then have to sift through all of them later on to determine duplications . The actual number goes down significantly in the final total .
