Title: Alabama Poised To Enact Arizona-style Illegal Immigration Law...
Post by: trapeze on June 04, 2011, 04:27:46 PM
IF the Republican governor has the spine necessary to sign the bill.

Quote
The governor of Alabama is taking the weekend to decide whether he will sign an Arizona-style bill into law to crack down on illegal immigrants.

If Gov. Robert Bentley gives his stamp of approval to the controversial legislation, the American Civil Liberties Union has vowed to challenge it in court.

"It's an outrageous throwback to the pre-civil rights era and we call on Governor Bentley to veto this deeply misguided bill," Cecillia Wang, director of the ACLU Immigrants' Rights Project, said Friday. "The Alabama Legislature has invited rank discrimination into people's everyday lives,"

The bill, passed by the Alabama Legislature on Thursday night, makes it a crime for a person to be in the state without a valid federal registration or other proof of legal presence.

I don't know why they don't mention that Bentley is a Republican. He is. I checked. What I don't know (and someone who does, please help) is if he is a conservative or a RINO. It's sort of hard to imagine that this bill, having made it this far, wouldn't be signed. Maybe he is taking the weekend to appear "thoughtful" and "circumspect" or something. I would sign the darn thing in a public press conference and publicly tell the ACLU to pound sand. That's the kind of attitude that the voters are looking for post November 2010. I honestly don't know how some of these elected officials can be so tone deaf to the voters.

An "outrageous throwback to the pre-civil rights era"?  Wang can go to hell if she is incapable of comprehending what the word ILLEGAL means!  The sooner she and her ilk are sent packing the better!  What a ignorant racist little twit!

Sign it Gov, sign it if for no other reason than to tell these idiots to go to hell!

So, he did it:

Quote
(Reuters) - Republican Governor Robert Bentley on Thursday signed into law a crackdown on illegal immigration in Alabama that both supporters and critics consider the toughest in the nation.

Under the new measure, police must detain someone they suspect of being in the country illegally if the person cannot produce proper documentation when stopped for any reason.

It also will be a crime to knowingly transport or harbor someone who is in the country illegally. The law imposes penalties on businesses that knowingly employ someone without legal resident status. A company's business license could be suspended or revoked.

The law requires Alabama businesses to use a database called E-Verify to confirm the immigration status of new employees.

It would have to be challenged first in state court, yes?  Have no idea what Alabama courts are like...

This kind of law will never work in a peaceful way, it's just practically calling for racism when the basis of being an illegal immigrant is suspicion. The people will tend to judge at their external appearance, of course. This will definitely pose much inconveniences even for the citizens and "legal" immigrants. I've read some other article here (Controversy erupts over Alabama immigration law, newsytype.com (http://www.newsytype.com/7468-alabama-immigration-law/)), and I can't help but wonder why government officials in another city would choose the already questionable law of another city to be the basis of another law that they want to pass. That just doesn't make sense.

I guess they shouldn't have swarmed into our country by the millions then. Sucks for them.

Racism?  Really.

This is the criteria according to the above quote:

The police already traffic-stop people for multiple reasons and ask for ID, which drivers are expected to have.  I don't see a problem here.

Perhaps your objection is to questioning a bunch of males grouped together in a Home Depot parking lot, looking for day work?  I believe the term for that is called profiling and I don't have a problem with that.

If someone is here illegally, I want him detained and deported.

Yeah, what real controversy is there?  Enforcing laws already on the books by beefing them up with a more precise language?  Ohh yeah, can't have that!  The only people using the word controversy are those punks who aid and abet illegals in this nation, like so-called civil rights groups!  I'll not bow to their multi-culti/diversity/pc idolatry!  As usual they want to law to cover their ass when it's convenient but have no problem shredding it when it gets in their way.  Fvck 'em!

I just love the way Americans love to give away what they never earned. Thier citizenship is given to them at birth and so it becomes something you get for free has no value.

Too many have never learned how precious citizenship really is.
