NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Housing Authority of New Orleans has set its sights on a fifth public housing redevelopment after having broken ground on four others.
The Times-Picayune reports the Iberville project on the edge of the French Quarter is the last traditional public housing complex in HANO's portfolio.
The agency and the city of New Orleans are among six finalists for a major federal grant.
HANO has sent the government a detailed plan that calls for investing $589 million to revitalize the historic but blighted neighborhood.
Plans call creating dozens of ground-floor spaces for stores, cafes and offices and building a total of nearly 2,500 new apartments.Regardless of the grant, HANO officials say the project is a go.

I'm sure those stores and cafes will thrive along with all the office space. Public tenents have a tendency to draw businesses.  ::unknowncomic::This would be hilarious if it wasn't such a sad waste of our money.

I think your right, it's a two-fer that's for sure, get the pork spread around unions ot make them happy and you create a captive population to build dependencies with...
