Title: Ohio State Legislature Does What WI Hasn't...yet

We'll see how Ohioans digest the move of their Republican state legislature and governor John Kasich to ding government employee collective bargaining ~~"rights"~~ privileges. I don't know enough about the Ohio legislature or state law to know if we'll see a new pack of Fleebaggers or not...

The Ohio Senate will vote on a bill this afternoon to curtail collective bargaining rights for public-sector employees.
Business Insider reported:[blockquote]The Ohio State Senate will vote this afternoon on a bill to curtail collective bargaining rights for public-sector unions, the AP reports.

The measure passed a Senate committee this morning, after Republicans replaced a GOP Senator who opposed the bill, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The legislation is backed by Ohio’s newly-elected Republican Governor John Kasich and is expected to pass the GOP-controlled Senate.

More than 8,000 protesters descended on Columbus Tuesday to protest the bill.[/blockquote]

It seems, all the focus on Wisconsin has served as an important distraction benefiting states like Ohio, to allow them to do what WI has been attempting to do: end the public union stanglehold on state budgets.

Wisconsin's bill exempts police and firefighters from the collective bargaining restrictions, while Ohio's does not.

The Ohio bill would ban strikes by public workers and establish penalties for those who do participate in walkouts. Unionized workers could negotiate wages, hours and certain work conditions -- but not health care, sick time or pension benefits.

Ohio Union thugs stormed the Easy Street Cafe last night where a group of Republican lawmakers were dining. The union thugs attacked the owner and threatened the Republican lawmakers. Police had to be called to remove the thugs.
The Columbus Dispatch reported, via Free Republic:[blockquote]The volatility surrounding the collective-bargaining debate spilled into the night Wednesday when police were called to a German Village restaurant after a group verbally accosted a gathering of Senate Republicans.

After the vote on Senate Bill 5, seven Republican senators, including President Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond, grabbed dinner at the Easy Street Cafe. As the lawmakers neared the end of their meal, a group of five to 10 union supporters angry about the passage of the bill hours before burst into the restaurant and began shouting.

The commotion eventually led to pushing and shoving with the restaurant staff and owner, before police arrived to calm the situation as a police helicopter hovered overhead. No senators were involved in the physical altercations, and no charges have been filed.

“It could have (gotten physical),” said Sen. Frank LaRose, 31, a Fairlawn Republican who served as a Green Beret. “The group was agitated and they were shoving the owner, and he had nothing to do with this.”

LaRose said it didn’t take special intelligence training to notice that while the lawmakers were eating, a woman walked past the window several times, poked her head in the door and got on her cell phone.

“It was planned,” LaRose said. “They gathered as a group and waited until they had about 10 people before they caused a disturbance.”[/blockquote]

People need to know that when it comes down to it, they cannot rely on their public servants to protect them from the jackals. I'll feel better now knowing that when the SHTF, I won't have to think twice about protecting myself from anyone, regardless if they have a badge or not. Thanks for taking sides. ::mooning::
