Between diseases, global warming and falling satellites, we have a lot to worry about these days — but let's not forget about the looming threat of a zombie apocalypse.

To help us prepare for this potential undead disaster, the folks at Architects Southwest, an architecture firm based in Louisiana, have launched the 2011 Zombie Safe House Competition. The organization has tasked artists, architects and other zombie enthusiasts with one goal: Design a haven that can withstand a full-on zombie assault on civilization as we know it.

Design entries so far are varied and imaginative, to say the least. A top contender right now is the Zombie Ranch, a zombie-powered vertical farm. As per the design, humans live in a spiral housing system above ground, safely out of harm’s reach; down below, zombies run around in circles trying to catch hanging bait traps, all the while turning a turbine that provides energy for the humans in the ranch.

Other entries include portable houses that travel through the air by balloon, structures floating atop abandoned oil rigs in the Antarctic and zombie fortresses built into mountain cliffs.

Nothing like making good use of Zombies.

Hopefully there is still enough surplus zombie labor that popping a few in the melon is still possible, don't want skills to get rusty, ya know?

 ;D

PS - It's probably one of those "if ya have to ask" deals, but...how much would it cost to get a zombie ranch built?

Also, just wondering, what is used as zombie bait?

Uninfected leftists?  Annoying mother-in-laws?

 ;D

Well, since I like my Mother-in-law way WAY W-A-Y more than any leftist, I think I'll just take her off the list and stick with the leftists!

Zombies eat brains don't they? That pretty much rules out leftists as the bait.

No, it makes the leftists the perfect bait. Zombies won't know there is no brain there, will catch one, no grey matter and will need to catch another. If they found a brain, the zombie may eat and leave.

Egg-sackly.  Zombie junk food.  Like "empty calories", only empty brain cavities.

What will be more numerous, the zombies or the zombie junk food?

idea to keep the food chain going.

1) To keep fresh zombie food, you will need a "occuply wall street rally here"  sign under your residence.
