Title: Rift Over Tim Tebow Custom 'Jesus' Jerseys
Post by: Pandora on November 16, 2011, 01:32:13 PM
Rift?  RIFT??!

I was torn in choosing where to post this; in Faith & Family, Sports or here, in Media Bias.  I believe the media bias against this young, Christian professional properly places it here.

It is my understanding that Tim Tebow's football playing peers have been seen on national TV mocking him by dropping to their knees in faux prayer on the field, and the media says nothing, nevermind issuing the righteous scalding opprobrium such mockery deserves.

The language in the piece posted below is a further example of the media scorn for Tebow in particular and Christians in general.

Quote
He's the model citizen, the guy you want your daughter to date, yet Tim Tebow can't help being the most polarizing figure in all of professional sports.

And during the upcoming holiday shopping season, Tebow is going to get even more controversial -- once again without any action on his part.

A handful of Denver fans have decided a customized Tim Tebow jersey would make for the perfect Christmas gift. What could possibly be troubling about that? A whole lot, depending on who you ask.

Rather than have the last name "Tebow" on the back of the Broncos jersey, these fans have placed "Jesus" above Tebow's No. 15.

Not everyone thinks it's appropriate. Some fans told CNN (via KTVQ) that the new custom apparel is blasphemous.

"Sports is one thing, and Jesus is another thing," Traci Yown, a mom Christmas shopping for her son told the network. "I like to have their names, their last names on the jerseys. I'm a Christian, but I mean I wouldn't want people going around having Jesus on the back of their jerseys."

But Rev. Marcus Buckley of a Baptist Church in Greer, S.C., believes those who speak out against such public displays of religion are haters.

"To me it just shows a cultural bias against Christ and Christianity," Rev. Buckley said.

He also feels the jerseys are a compliment to Tebow.

Religious fanatics haven't stopped at uniforms; some have even created Tebow in what's been described as Christ-like images.

As for his football prowess, Tebow has led the Broncos to a 3-1 record despite struggling to complete the forward pass. The former Florida Gators star completed just two of eight passes for 69 yards against the Chiefs over the weekend. Tebow became just the second quarterback in 51 years to lead his team in passing attempts (*min. 3 attempts), but end up with more rushing attempts. Bobby Douglass did it three times for the 1972 Chicago Bears.

Tebow thanked the military at Arrowhead Stadium as he walked out to play the Chiefs.

Who made Tebow "controversial" and "polarizing" since, as Ben Maller admits, it has been "once again without any action on his {Tebow's} part"?

Shame on them all.

polarizing - present participle of po·lar·ize (Verb)

Verb:

1) Restrict the vibrations of (a transverse wave, esp. light) wholly or partially to one direction.

2) Cause (something) to acquire polarity.

3) Go against what the dumbest students in college, those in Journalism, were taught.

Any more questions?

...and the war on Christianity continues...

Nope. Nothing to see here folks. Nothing at all.

Further proof that democrats claiming to be Christian are not at all Christian. If they were they wouldn't be voting for democrats out of self preservation. Make no mistake, the democrats seek to criminalize Christianity.

Yup the same people who like to pontificate about separation of church and state want to prevent the free exercise of religion in any public setting, the same people who ignore the murderous ways of cults like Islam under the cloak of religious tolerance have nothing but intolerance for Christianity in any form.

And if a Muslim player dropped down towards Mecca at half time and other players mocked him they be out by morning.

Sounds about right for an organization that dropped Hank Jr in favor of Madonna.   ::curtsy4::

2 Timothy 3: 12-17

12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
