She was an extraordinary talent and I for one will miss her. Her song "I'd Rather Be Blind" still gives me goose bumps.

Wow. That is awesome. As I said earlier, I was unfamiliar with her, other than having heard her name before, and knowing that she was an old-school blues singer. Now in hearing it, it seems so obvious to me how she influenced others in the genre. Take that Amy Winehouse chick that died last year for instance. Listen to her, and you can hear Etta James jumping right out of her voice.

She was the first "break through" and one of the greatest R&B artists ever.
