Teachers, firefighters and police officers said they would begin a boycott of M&I Bank if the bank does not begin publicly opposing Gov. Scott Walker's efforts to curtail collective bargaining for public workers.

Why in the hell should any private business take a position against their interest because they are threatened? If it's loss of business they're threatening them with, perhaps a counter-boycott of support for the bank would encourage them to stand firm.

What do you want to bet none of the local gun stores are getting threatened.......

Interesting development. I can't wait until the (Republican) Wisconsin State Attorney General hears of this collusive extortion plot. Step one: decertify the union(s). Step two: issue multiple indictments for violation of the RICO statutes. Step three: Try not to pee your pants when laughing as the dimwitted leftist domestic terrorists go to jail.

Is it a RICO violation, and does a state AG have the authority to press RICO charges? I'm asking cuz I don't know, not cuz I doubt what you're saying.
-
Answering the 2nd part first, RICO is federal so no the AG would have to refer a complaint to the US DOJ (and we know who is the fox currently guarding that henhouse).
The second part is tricky too. RICO in shorthand is federal racketeering. Under RICO, a person who is a member of an enterprise that has committed any two of 35 crimes—27 federal crimes and 8 state crimes—within a 10-year period can be charged with racketeering. (wackypedia)
It would be a long shot to convict but I bet they could really put their butts in a sling. And I do believe that they could decertify the union, at least in Wisconsin.

At the very least there is a wee bit of a conflict of interest question about an organization representing the police having a publicly expressed hostility to a bank. Hopefully they won't be greeted with a go-slow should they have to call for help during a robbery.
Or for that matter, it's a conflict of interest with any entity. They pay taxes like anyone else and should have the reasonable expectation to equal protection from the police and fire services. This declared hostility calls all that into question.

This is nothing short of extortion and the operation of a protection racket by law enforcement "enforcers" . It's also a glaring example of Stymie's brand of community organizing .

The unions seem to be stuck in some sort of time and/or space vortex. They have reverted (if they truely ever left) to the old school type of union behavior where intimidation, payoffs, bribes and threats were commonplace.
Sad. The world has left them behind. In a time where liberals belief the earth and its inhabitants all evolved from ooze, unions haven't evolved at all. They are still primal sludge.

I've been having similar thoughts. I wonder, have they always been the thugs and crybabies we are seeing now, and just never needed to demonstrate it because they always got what they wanted? I suspect that is the case.

It's a fact that the DNC and AFL - CIO were instrumental in bring out of staters into Wisconsin for the Madison demonstrations the only question is how much was spent .

I was thinking more on the lines of 'work ethic', you know, how much work gets done while they're on the clock. :)

ACE (http://ace.mu.nu/archives/313496.php) has some context on the Police Union leader threatening local businesses. Apparently there is some blowback from rank and file cops who don't like the implications of what their "leader" has done. And I did not know until today that the union leader responsible for the threats, Jim Palmer, is not a cop. He's a f**king dirtbag lawyer.
UPDATE to WI Public Union Extortion Letter (http://ace.mu.nu/archives/313496.php)
In yesterday's thread, we got a heartening response from some LEOs who are horrified by Palmer's threatening letter to businessowners who supported Walker.
Patrick Dorwin at Badger Blogger:[blockquote]the tactics of the WPPA are wrong. Our police officers are entrusted with a great responsibility, and they swear to do their job, upholding the laws of Wisconsin, no matter what their personal opinions might be.[/blockquote]More from a Badger with a badge.[blockquote]And two weeks ago, John Balcerzak, the former president of the Milwaukee Police Association—the collective bargaining unit representing rank-and-file Milwaukee police officers and detectives—e-mailed WTMJ radio to distance sworn law enforcement officers from the WPPA executive director. “Jim Palmer is not a police officer,” Balcerzak noted. “He is a lawyer.”
As SF noted in an earlier post, during heated political discourse, labor unrest, or civil strife, law enforcement officers become the uniformed arbitrators of fairness.
One section of The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics reads, “I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions,”[/blockquote]I guess Mr. Palmer never actually ran this letter idea by a few of the the rank-and-file. If he had, an actual police officer could have told him that it wasn't a good idea and would besmirch the integrity of all WI LEOs.
-
Unless and until they take decisive positive action about Palmer, I'm going to consider this the "good cop" to Palmer's "bad cop".
