Title: US panel recommends against PSA tests for screening prostate cancer in men
Post by: Glock32 on May 21, 2012, 06:40:07 PM
So, women shouldn't get mammograms so often or so early, and now men shouldn't be screened for prostate cancer? Anyone else smell the Obamacare rat?

Quote
Should adult men get a PSA blood test to screen for prostate cancer? In its final recommendation on the subject, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has reviewed the evidence and says no, the small benefit from the blood test does not outweigh the expected harms that come with a positive test, regardless of age.

That would certainly come as a surprise to my grandfather, whose prostate cancer was detected by his dramatically elevated PSA levels.

A good friend of mine is now prostate cancer free going on 3 years because of an elevated PSA blood test.  I can't believe that there is now a war on men.

What bullsh*t. This is one of the forms of cancer that can be coped with or cured at a high rate of success depending on early detection.

WTF do they want? It's like they're begging the people to go hot, and they're so incredulous that we're not, they keep piling up the offenses as if in disbelief that we'll just keep taking their sh*t.

Well they have to cut back somewhere. Why not cut back on PSA tests. They have pay for free birth control somehow!  ::gaah::

I just heard on the radio "news" today that the experts are now advising against colonoscopies in favor of sigmoidoscopies, because the latter increases the "catch-rate" by 20%, so I guess that percentage is good enough.

When people cede all responsibility for themselves to Uncle Sugar, they're going to find out the hard way that he gets to call the tune.

I don't get this.

It's not like it's something that's really invasive (biopsy or surgery) with questionable outcomes.  It's a blood test. If there's a concern about false positives then maybe you redo the test with a different lab.

What it is is that all of these maladies are predominate in mature people, those who now have a living memory of what it was like to live in the land of the free. ::wink::
