Title: Players vs NFL
Post by: Libertas on April 06, 2011, 11:33:54 AM
OMG!  I think I'm gonna cry!  Football players careers in jeopardy!  Oh the horror!  The shame!

The players are asking for an immediate end to the lockout on the basis of "irreparable harm" to their careers. The injunction request accompanies the antitrust lawsuit filed against the league after labor talks broke down on March 11.

Maybe the NFL should factor in the players endorsement and other off-field sources of revenue into their overall compensation package!  If these million dollar bonus babies want open books, let's open all the books!

I heard a players rep say the other day that they would know better what their demands would be once they "saw the books" ... WTF ? Unless it's a public company they have no business seeing "the books" ! Who the hell do these guys think they are ?  ::gaah::

What on earth is the justification for an NFL players union in the first place? Maybe back in the day, when guys were pounding it out for a modest salary in careers that ended after just a few short years. They needed some assurance that if they were gonna sacrifice their bodies and more traditional career plans for a short stint in the NFL, that they would be adequately compensated and earn enough with which to build a future.

But those days are LONG gone. It's hard to garner any sympathy or empathy whatsoever for the grievances of an elite exclusive club of pampered multi-millionaire athletes with access to the best recuperative health care on the planet and wealth beyond their wildest dreams.

If I was an owner I'd push for firing every last one of them and rehiring those who wanna come to work. It might create a patchwork of talent for a few years, but things would equalize out as the realities of the business changed.

If I owned a team....the first player who griped about his salary and asked to see by books would be immediately fired.
My next act would be an open meeting within the organization to inform all of the new policy.

The players are not the typical employees since they all hire lawyers to negotiate individual contracts; or am I missing something?

They have no shared ownership in the team...So in essence, they are an employee, whether a lawyer/agent negotiates thier contract or they do it themselves.

I don't care if the owners made crummy deals in the past, no one is gonna demand to see P and L because they believe I'm making too much money and they are not making enough. If they do not like the pay or the bennies or are upset over new negotiations, they are welcome to find other employment with those who finds their skills more valuable.

Since NFL football is the only professional sport I really follow, anymore, I was initially upset by this. Now, I find myself not giving a damn about the players or the owners.

Oh well. If they don't settle this in time for the season, I'll find something else to do on Sunday afternoons.

I like the game since a kid watching Vikings lose Superbowl's one after another, and have been in FF for three decades...but if it gets scrubbed, I'll find something else to do.  More rides on the motorcycle, more fishing, hunting, hiking or shooting.

Man, are you fortunate....They have blessed us with PACMAN jones and his strip club issues, a QB shot in the head by his mistress (who btw, is revered here)who also suffered two DUI arrests, a whiny, juvenile "VY" who ran off with a gun, then walked off the field and a coach given a vote of confidence, then had to quit over...over.....well, we were never told why.

It is why I am a Nashville Predator fan. At least the fights are real and all the good action is on the ice.

I'm pretty sure that between the Pat's loss to the Jets in the Playoffs, the crying by the Brady and others (see that pussy crying about recalling getting picked so late?), and the arrogance and greed, I'm pretty sure I've watched my last NFL game.
A bit of a bummer too, since I always appreciated the teamwork involved in executing complicated plays, the physicality and talent.
My interest in the NFL started to wane years ago when I learned unions are goddamn commies, but this is it.
Looks life the wife and I will have to find some other way to ente3rtain ourselves on Sunday nights.  ::kissface::
