from abc news:

The agreement to keep the government funded calls for $38.5 billion in budget cuts, with no reduction in funding to Planned Parenthood, sources from both parties told ABC News.

Officials expect to pass a temporary resolution to keep the government funded beyond midnight, when it was scheduled to run out, and until the full agreement can be drawn up and passed by Congress, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio said this evening.

"I would expect the final vote to occur on this mid next week," Boehner said. "This has been a lot of discussion and a long fight, but we fought to keep government spending down."

38 bil?  That's all they got?  And the abortion mills still get their money.

 ::gaah::  *sigh*

Okay.  Onto the debt ceiling battle.

Rove is calling it a win for Boehner, Greta is arguing for the wrong reasons I think (Mute is clicked when an argument starts), where is the panel.  Bret was saying earlier, 'see  you at midnight'.

It appears to stink on ice.

There was something earlier saying that there would be a separate vote on funding PP down the line.So the funding may not be secured for long. But we'll see in the days to come.

I'm having a memory lapse as to the total amount cut between all the short-term CRs and now this $38.5B. Is it safe to say they're close to the $50-60B mark in spending cuts taken all together? Seems like it to me, but perhaps someone can expand with hard numbers.

It's relevant at least to remember that this agreement only takes us through October. Pan's right - the debt ceiling is the next fight, and then Ryan's long-term budget proposal and 2012 budget come next. That will be a battleground. And Ryan isn't just some schlub congressman. He's the chair of the House Budget Committee. He'll be heard loud and clear, for better or worse. By everything we've seen of him so far, he'll make the case as well as it can be made.

Bret & Co are coming on Fox.

Doug Schouen just said Obama dodged a bullet.  Yeah, it stinks on ice.
We lost the game of KING Of The HILL.

What, another deferment of PP funding? Lucy just took away the football once again. Boner is an absolute pantywaist.

Once again the GOP proves, that being a man doesn't mean you have balls.

So, what yer going to do for US bankruptcy day? ::angry::

Leadership deficit from both parties is evident. See you on the other side!

You have to understand that these people are all part of the government, so they think a government shutdown is a Big Effin' Deal.  The whole time, I've been thinking, "Hell yeah, shut it down, and keep it shut."  I suspect I'm not alone in that.

They regard a government shutdown as unthinkable, on a par with repealing the law of gravity.  Oh wait, they already did that.

We're over the cliff now, and everybody's going, "Hey look!  I can fly!"

We sent them a message in 2010.
We thought that the dems. didn't hear us. They heard us they are ignoring us.
As it turns out it is the republicans that didn't hear us.
If you vote yes on this I will seek another party and to hell with you. I am through being used and lied to. It is over.

Double edged sword for me. I am glad on one hand that the shut down didn't happen for one very simple selfish reason. My Son is in the Army. He will get paid. He earned it. I know he did, and will for the next # number of years in ways he hasn't even thought of yet.

A blank check payable to the free people of the United States of America up to and including death.

That deserves a MOTHERFVUCKING PAYCHECK.

The other edge is I was in during the last shutdown........after that we didn't have sh!t for training money. It got cut. Thanks that time to Monica Lewinsky's boyfriend's admin.

All they did here was put a tiny band-aid on a sucking chest wound.

I am now an Independent. Fvck all the parties. I am done with this sh!t.

I'm outta here before I blow a blood vessel.

Dang, no shutdown. I was counting on the 3.5 billion in savings a day.

Can someone cut me a crumb of pie?

$39B?

People are applauding a lousy $39B?

That better be multiplied by a factor of 50 or people are just whistling past the graveyard!

This is worth a read. I don't have the patience to read the whole thing on tiny dumbphone screen but it looks like the pubbies got a lot more than the diminished spending cuts that have us so angry. I wanted deeper cuts, and still think they shouldve driven harder, but if some of the other things they got have any teeth, they'll go a bit of the way toward assuaging some of the disappointment.

Quote
There were no votes on defunding the EPA or PBS and NPR. Democrats fought for and won a $2 billion cut from the Department of Defense, knocking the military appropriation for the rest of the year down to $513 billion.

But the GOP had to be able to see this as a win in the end, because it is puny compared to what they want to do next.

Yes, "But the GOP had to be able to see this as a win...", it was a loss and we all know it.  "Past is prelude" and this loss is prelude to the next one.  Watch for Boehner and Cantor to undermine Ryan.  ...insert "suckerfish.img" here...

Kamikazees died for the Emperor and they still lost the war . A shutdown would have been suicide for the Republicans in 2012 and the MSM and Stymies gang know it and would have reaped the benefit . This was a tactical draw that didn't make either side look particularly good . The Dems will try it again when the 2012 budget negotiations come . That's when the real nut-cutting starts and they try to lay the same trap all over again . This is all about the 2012 elections because the Democrats don't give a rat's ass about spending cuts and don't kid yourselves otherwise . The Republican Party better start learning some Public Relations tricks because they sure as hell can't count on the media ( with the exception of Fox News ) to tell the truth about this crap .
