I remember it fairly well too - I was 13 at the time. I'm not sure if my memory of it is primarily from when it actually happened, or from subsequent re-tellings, but I know for sure I was aware of it when it happened.
These kinds of things have meaning, and can give us hope. They serve as a reminder of decency, patriotism, honor, and the value of those who came before who exemplified these characteristics.
We can be certain that many on today's Left think that Rick Monday's action was wasted effort, and no big deal. They think the values inherent in the action are contemptible.
As long as people who understand why Rick Monday did what he did still live free in America, America will not fall. They'll have to kill us all if they want that essentially American spirit to die. Let the Left choke on its contempt.
