I'm watching it.  By happenstance, I've always lived in/near a National League city (Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia), so I naturally root for the NL.

Roy Halliday just pitched a perfect first inning, so we're off to a good start.

Halliday pitched two perfect innings, and Cliff Lee pitched a perfect third inning.  The game is still scoreless.

When was the last time two pitchers from the same team were the first two pitchers used by an All-Star team?

Lee gave up a homer in the fourth, so the AL leads 1-0.

The way pitchers are used in the All-Star game, I think managers should consider picking a pitching staff consisting of one starter, and the rest setup men and closers.

Prince Fielder hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, so the NL leads 3-1.

I'm not sure how many other Phillies players are on the team, but the NL manager couldn't go too far wrong by getting the Phillies bullpen into the game at this point.   cool

Just watched my boy play his last game of the season.

He's first-baseman on the town-league traveling team, and the team absolutely sucked hind tit this whole year. It was a painful season to watch. Not a pitcher among them. Terrible coach. Fielding errors galore. Cold bats. And to top it off, our district just moved up this year to the next echelon in competition. Whereas last year they played against more small-town teams, this year they played against the big outer-ring suburbia teams that were far deeper in talent. Whoever made that call oughta be hung.

They only won two games all season, against the same team - another team that moved up this year. They lost about 1/2  of the games they lost by the ten-run-after-5-innings rule.

Sorry to hear that, IDP.

I've been a baseball fan all my life, but I absolutely sucked when I tried to play when I was a kid.

When I get elected President, though, I promise to issue an executive order abolishing the DH, which is a crime against humanity and an affront to God.

ETA:  And the All-Star game is an exhibition game.  It should have nothing whatsoever to do with home field advantage in the World Series.  I'll take care of that in another EO.

New coach next year, right?

Heck, after this year, I might have trouble convincing him it's worth it to play no matter who the coach is. I don't think any of the boys on the team had any fun at all. They were dejected to the point of being humiliated before the games even began. It was sad to see.

They do the same thing in hockey.  Why people cannot comprehend the simple idea of scheduling teams of same class I dunno!  It doesn't do a higher team any good to beat up on a lower and the lower team taking a beating helps no one.

Good story.  My nephew who plays center and likes to mix it up anyway was playing a team that was higher and older.  At the face off my nephew asks the big kid opposite him "How's the wife and kids?"  He came back later with "You should learn how to shave!".  They got pounded but my nephew battled the whole time.

As for All Star games, they're all kinda lame.  Basbeball is marginally better perhaps, with the NFL (especially now having it between the conference championships and the Super Bowl) being the most lame.  But even baseball, with injuries and psuedo-injuries there were, what?  84 players?  It's a joke.

I agree with rickl, if you want it to count, go to one starter (two tops) and get relivers in there and play the starters the whole game if you have to!  And none of this Euphorian picking one guy off a team just to make people feel better crap, and lets play the best players and play to win.  Or don't play to win and quit jerking us around pretending you are!
