When I was in elementary school I had a friend from China.  He lived with his mom, and his dad didn't come to live with them until several years later. That's because he was sitting in a Chinese prison for a decade for the crime of criticizing the government

What do you have to say to that, Tom Friedman? Is that an acceptable cost in exchange for the benefit of a strong central government that doesn't have to entertain the objections of different parties? He would never say it, but you know what?
