House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said on Thursday that the 43 Catholic institutions—including the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., and the Archdiocese of New York--that are suing the Obama administration ... are not speaking for the Catholic Church.... “What about the 43 Catholic institutions [that] have now sued the administration over the regulation that requires them to provide contraceptives, sterilizations, and abortifacients in their health care plans?” CNSNews.com asked. “They say that violates their religious freedom. Do you support the Catholic Church in their lawsuits against the administration?”
... “Well, I don’t think that’s the entire Catholic Church,” Pelosi responded. “Those people have a right to sue, but I don’t think they’re speaking ex cathedra for the Catholic Church.
“And there are people in the Catholic Church, including some of the bishops, who have suggested that some of this may be premature,” Pelosi said.
It is unclear why Pelosi would have pointed out that when an archbishop—such as Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York or Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C.—sues the federal government of the United States in actions designed to protect the First Amendment rights of American Catholics he is not “speaking ex cathedra” for the Catholic Church.
“Ex cathedra” refers to the infallible authority that Catholics believe the pope exerts when he makes a formal and solemn declaration on matters of faith and morals.
... The Catholic teachings that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong—the basis for the suits that the Archdioceses of Washington and New York have brought against the Obama administration--are in fact inalterable teachings that the church says are rooted in natural law.
The Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., states in its lawsuit: “The Catholic Church views abortion, sterilization, and contraception as intrinsically immoral, and prohibits Catholic organizations from condoning or facilitating those practices.” Does this scrunt know anything about anything?!

It just proves nancypants will say anything about anything. C'mon Catholics, this is your opportunity to kick her anti religious azz out of your church. I can see the bulleten in a Catholic church near you: The views of nancy pelosi do not necessarily reflect the views of the Pope.

Matter of fact, The Pope should force her to tattoo a giant disclaimer on her candy azz.....Or at least a warning sticker.

They should bring back the practice of excommunicating those who stand against the Church's beliefs. Look at all the "good Catholics" in elected office who have been tireless advocates for abortion and sodomite marriage. It would be nice if the Church started calling them out in public and by name.

"It is said" for the Church to take (proper) action against Pelosi-types would be seen as interfering in our political processes.

I don't see how considering the DemonRats are the ones that bought it as a poltical hand grenade. Question is how is it they get to use the same grenade time after time? Does it somehow reconstitute itself?

She's counting on the Pope, doing/saying nothing, not interjecting himself over here. Sadly, she's not miscalculated, he probably won't even publish he supports the many dioceses' opinions.

No. I don't think the hand grenade has ever been used (if I understand you correctly). The "threat" posed by the "mackeral eaters" was supposedly neutered by reassurances offered in order to get the first Catholic, Kennedy, elected.

I'm thinking she excommunicated herself a loooong time ago. You think she even nomally practices the Catholic faith? I don't. I doubt anyone really believes she's a practicing Catholic. She's a scandal to traditional Catholics and liberal Catholics know she's one of them. No one is fooled BUT the media lets her get away with calling herself Catholic because it serves their purposes. I do wish some Catholic priest would just say she's not publicly following the tenets of the Catholic faith and she's setting a bad example. I would enjoy the media firestorm.
