I looked up his record, started as a bubblehead on attack subs and boomers, pretty solid career lot of recognition...

If a fairly straight arrow looking chap can fall prey to the lure of post-service riches...it is almost certain others have/are doing to same now...especially in latter day lax contracting practices, little oversight/consequences and rubber-stamped funding bills...

I recall a news story about flag rank officers. In order to reach flag rank naval officers had to command a ship of a certain size.
So many of such ships were built recently even though they were not needed.

Also, in WWII four stars had x number of troops under them. Now it is 63 times x.

All flag officers don't get there without major commands...it's not size of ships or planes or tanks...it's operational commands...and WWII by its nature had a sh*tload of flag officers...4 Admirals, 2 USA Generals and 1 USAF General made it to 5 stars...  War on a global scale ramps everything up, especially conventional like that...

Conventional war now days will be short-lived...it's just what follows may or may not be so swell...

I heard that CURRENT US 4 stars are 63x more bloated than in WWII. If current Us 4 stars had the same number of troops under them as in WWII  there would be 63 times fewer 4 stars.

It's more the denominator than the numerator...less GFO's overall, but the drop in personnel from WWII (well, duh, WWII!) make percentage of total a bit higher, but it doesn't look as bad as you're saying...and you have to account for coalition operations (NATO et al), joint operation commands etc...

Check this out - https://sgp.fas.org/crs/natsec/R44389.pdf

Near the end they make recommendations/considerations that to me the technological and restructuring lesser commands to Colonel's/Captains & Lt. Colonel's/Commanders.

Had Judge Nap on with guest ret Col  Wilkerson.
He said that the goal of a promotable Col is to get a defense job on retirement.
Of 32 3 and 4 stars last year 26 went to work for defense contractors at hundreds of thousands per year. 4 star may be millions per year.

There was a larger denominator in a world war...today the larger numerator is driven by more commands...ya dig?  They are never going to be comparable...for most nations of military size...

And it is just a coincidence it occurs during a time of hyper-politicization of the military begun under The Kenyan...lay mostly dormant during the first Trump term and surges under puppet FJB...
